cleared up at Bend
After a short discussion at
the conclusion of Monday's
meeting of Grand Bend council
it appeared as if the budget
requested by the resort's recre-
ation committee may be approv-
ed.
Clearing up some misunder-
standings of a week ago council
agreed to consider a budget of
$8,500. Added to this would
be • possible grants of $1,000
from last year's operation and
$2,700 currently in the bank
credited to the rec group.
The expenditure side of the
budget shows $6,000 to operate
the summer lifeguard program,
$1,200 for secretary salary,
$700 for rec committee and
$1,200 to go to minor sports.
Councillor Harold Green who
is a member of the ree committee
as a village representative said,
"If the rec committee is supposed
to raise money then you should
appoint nine retired people to
the committee, We just don't
have that kind of time,"
Councillor Bill Baird, the other
council appointee added, "It
doesn't appear as if this com-
mittee has the ambition to go
out and raise funds.''
To this Green commented,
"I sure am losing interest. it
looks the same as last year with
a few people doing all of the work.
It's my personal opinion that we
slr,ould disband the committee,
Councillor Bob Simpson
replied, "If we scrap the com-
mittee we would save the $1,900
in salaries."
Reeve Bob Sharen who sug-
gested a week ago that the
coniniittee should be trying to
raise funds said Monday night,
"The committee should just
co-ordinate efforts to raise
funds and assign responsibili-
ties to each member."
Approve entertainment
(continued from page 1)
and the sport is popular in Nassau
and Acapulco.
Tickets for the rides would
be purchased from the Surf
Shop on Main street near the
beach. McDermott said his
solicitors were looking at the
Canadian liability laws. He
added, ''c are trying to be very
ultra careful in our planning and
will abide by all regulations."
The para -sail concession would
operate seven days a week during
the months of. July and August
and on all other w eekends.
Council gave its approval
providing there was no inter-
ference to swimmers and boaters
in the beach area.
DISCUSS PARKING
A letter , from the Ontario
Ministry of Transportation and
Communications cleared up. the
definition of Parking Prohibited
and Standing Prohibited in a
proposed parking regulation
for Highway 21.
Clerk Louise Clipperton
advised that in a Parking Pro-
hibited zone, vehicles would
be allowed to stop and load and
unload merchandise and pas-
sengers while in a No Standing
area. passengers only could be
picked up or discharged...
Councillor Bill Baird com-
mented, "We don't w ant trucks
stopping. Period. Harold Green
added, "That's what we want,
Standing Prohibited."
Baird said OPP officers could
now charge vehicles parked on
Highway 21 for obstructing
traffic on a four -lane highw ay.
Council reaffirmed their
previous decision not ..to allow
any brush to be taken to the waste
disposal site by residents. Brush
w ill be accepted during the spring
pickup if it is placed in three foot
tied bundles.
The Victoria Playhouse is
staging a quilt display on June
4, 5. Ei and a request was received
for loaning of quilts for the
occasion. Council will be turning
the request over to the Grand
Bend Women's Institute.
Letters were received frorii
two Grand Bend residents object-
ing to a proposed parking lot
on the east side of Park street.
Wayne Cran.ston,owner of
the property at 13 Park street
suggested the property in ques-
tion would make a pleasant
picnic park or would be suitable
for a miniature golf course.
Clerk Clipperton reported all
seasonal dockage spaces had
been booked.
For the summer months eni-
'ployees of the clerk's office
will operate on a staggered lunch
hour system allowing the office
