Village passes hours bylaw
Council of the village of Bay-
field Monday evening passed a
by-law to amend the Holiday
Closing Act, amending the Act
to allow business establishments
to remain open on Sundays and
holidays. The fact that the vill-
age is a recreational and tourist
area allows the amendment.
It was learned that the Ministry
of Transportation and Commun-
ication has approved the subsidy
on the paving to be done this
year in the village by contract to
Lavis of Clinton at a cost of
$17.45 per ton. It was also learn-
ed that the Huron County levy
would be $28,607. for 1976;
down about $6,000. from the
previous year, and would be due
in two installments, June 30 and
December 15.
A letter from the Minister of
Culture, the Hon. Robert Welch
stated that a grant of $5,000
had been approved from Wintar-
io for the village 'centennial cele-
brations on July 1,2,3 'and 4
and with it also extended his
congratulations. Due to repeated
requests from Mr. Van Laughton
of Exeter and owners and oper-
ators of marinas in the Bayfield
River, it was learned that the
federal government has approv-
ed range lights for the Bay-
field harbour.
It other business council award-
ed the tender for 2500 cu. yds.
of 5/8 gravel to Sandy Contract-
ing in Goderich at a cost of
$2.50 per cu. yd. This was the
only tender received in twice
calling.
Council agreed to the installing
of sheet steel piling as proposed
by Bayfield River Cottage Colony
to stop erosion, subject to approv-
al of their plans. Council -on their
road tour Saturday, April 10 will
check into a complaint by Mrs.
Robinson regarding the drainage
overflow at the Albion Hotel
corner, and will check again the
complaint for Clair Duval regard-
ing the elimination of the excess
water at the bottom of the long
