ALL ABOUT BAYFIELD INTERESTING HAPPENINGS IN ONTARIO'S PRETTIEST VILLAGE Get $5,040 grant Village passes hours bylaw Council of the village of Bay- field Monday evening passed a by-law to amend the Holiday Closing Act, amending the Act to allow business establishments to remain open on Sundays and holidays. The fact that the vill- age is a recreational and tourist area allows the amendment. It was learned that the Ministry of Transportation and Commun- ication has approved the subsidy on the paving to be done this year in the village by contract to Lavis of Clinton at a cost of $17.45 per ton. It was also learn- ed that the Huron County levy would be $28,607. for 1976; down about $6,000. from the previous year, and would be due in two installments, June 30 and December 15. A letter from the Minister of Culture, the Hon. Robert Welch stated that a grant of $5,000 had been approved from Wintar- io for the village 'centennial cele- brations on July 1,2,3 'and 4 and with it also extended his congratulations. Due to repeated requests from Mr. Van Laughton of Exeter and owners and oper- ators of marinas in the Bayfield River, it was learned that the federal government has approv- ed range lights for the Bay- field harbour. It other business council award- ed the tender for 2500 cu. yds. of 5/8 gravel to Sandy Contract- ing in Goderich at a cost of $2.50 per cu. yd. This was the only tender received in twice calling. Council agreed to the installing of sheet steel piling as proposed by Bayfield River Cottage Colony to stop erosion, subject to approv- al of their plans. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Tablot, Deanna and Marshal, St. Thomas were Sunday visitors with his parents and nephews. Bayfield Novice teammates and parents were happy to see one of the coaches, Norm Valliere who had been laid up since early January, at the game on Satur- day at the Grand Bend tourna- ment in Zurich, when his novice team played as a guest team in the series. Mr. Norman C. Brown, London was at his cottage during the weekend. Mr. George Dewar of St. Cath- erines was a recent guest of his aunt, Mrs. Elva Mecalf and also visited with his grandmother, Mrs. David Dewar in the Goder- ich Nursing Home. Mrs. W.E. Morley and Ke3in of Cleveland, Ohio are spending a few days at their village resid- ence. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Smith, Paris spent Saturday with his mother, Mrs. L.B. Smith. Billy Bob Johnston celebrated his 95th birthday on Sunday, Citizens News, April 7/76 - Page 19 April 4, and many of his old friends and neighbours of Bay- field went to Huronview where he now resides to wish him well. Mrs. Chapman discussed and told the girls when the record books had t obe handed in for Achievement Day, by April 23, for Achievement Day on May 8. The history outline was also completed.
