Bayfield council at its regul-
ar meeting learned that the
government of Ontario recently
changed its approach to emer-
gency planning and response.
The Emergency Measures
Branch of the Ministry of the
Solicitor General has been disb-
anded and a lead ministry concept
has beeni e
establ sh d. Lead min-
istries of the government have
been given responsibility for
responding to various emergency
situations by providing and co-
ordinating resources necessary
to meet declared emergencies.
The Ministry of Natural Re-
sources has been identified by
Order -in -Council as the ministry
responsible for provincial resp-
onse to flood emergency. It is
the view of the Ministry that
upon the occurence of a flood
emergency, initial responsibil-
ity for the residents rests with the
municipality having jurisdiction
and that a provincial response will
provide assistance in support
of emergency action undertaken
by the municipality. .
Council also Learned of the Org-
anization of Small Urban Munic-
ipalities Conference in Whitby
on May 6, 7 and 8.
A Beach and Park clean-up
through the Student Summer
employment program sponsored
by the Ausable-Bayfield Conserv-
ation Authority was applied for.
An invitation from the Ministry
of Housing Workshop to take
place in Sutton Park Inn, Kin-
cardine on March 23 was rec-
eived.
In other business, council
were reminded of the public
meeting to be held on Saturday
March 20 at 2 p.m. in the mun-
icipal building for the purpose
of discussing the proposal a a

new library. The town foreman
was instructed to put up the half
load signs and to check into the
cleaning of the catch basins on
Main Street at the Gairdner
corner.
Council decided to fertilize
and seed Clan Gregor Square.
Areas for parking for the Cent-

ing on Wednesday, March 31
and of the Centennial Commit-
tee meeting, Thursday, March 18
were mentioned.
A contract to Lavis Contract-
ing, Clinton for 1582 tons of
hot -mix asphalt at 517.45 per ton
was awarded. This was the low-
est of four tenders. Others rang -
eel from $24.10 down. Mt. and Mrs. Frank Boyce
accompanied their son and family
Mr. and Mrs. Ken Boyes, Robert
and Julie to London where they
enjoyed a performance of the
Ice Capades.

who is presently hospitalized.
LIONS CLUB
The regular dinner meeting
of the Bayfield Lioness Club was
held at the Bavarian Inn, Thurs-
day, March 11 with 29 members
present. The president Joan
Merner presided. During the bus-
iness session, it was decided to
make arrangements
to cater to
the Fireman's banquet on March
26. A lovely gavel and gong
presented to the Lionesses from
the Bayfield Lions Club was much
appreciated.
The next meeting will be on
Thursday, April 8 when the roll
call will be answered by bring-.
ing a tea towel.
It was decided also to 'sponsor
both a Senior and a Junior
Queen for the competition to be
held on May 8.
LADIES GUILD
The Ladies Guild of Trinity
Anglican Church met on Tues-
day, March 9 in the Parish Hall
with 15 members and one guest
present. The guest Mrs. Pat Van
Patter later joined as a memb-
er of the guild.
The president, Mrs. R. Roy
Fitzsimons presided and called
on Mrs. Bill Parker to read the
scripture. The Lord's Prayer was
then repeated in unison.
The secretary Mrs. Berthena
Hammond read her report of the
previous meeting which was
adopted. All correspondence
received was movedfor filing.
Mrs. Merton Merner gave
her treasurer's report, and it was
approved. All outstanding
bills were approved for payment.
Mrs. Maude Weston card and
flower secretary, gave her report.
The hostess for the April Guild
meeting will be Mrs. Florence
Brown with the scripture to be
taken by Mrs, L.B. Smith and the
poem by Mrs. Merton Merner.
Discussion on a Bake Sale
took place and it was decided to
hold it on Saturday morning,
August 7 at 11 a.m. in the Parish
Hall. Birthday money was paid
by Mrs. Ruth Mutzelburg. Mrs.
Fitzsimons reminded the ladies
of the Lenten Services each Wed-
nesday morning at 10 a.m.
in the church, and before all the
members repeated the Grace, she
thanked the hostess, Mrs. L.B.
Smith and the members for com-
ing out.
Mrs. Smith served a lovely
lunch, enjoyed by the ladies.

A very sincere sympathy to
Mr. Eric Earl and fancily in the
loss of his sister Dorothy (Mrs
Jack Boyle) last Thursday in
London.
Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Steckle
Sr. returned honk after spending
the past two weeks as the guests
of their granchildren, while the
young people's parents, Mr. and
Mrs, J.W. Taylor enjoyed a hol-
iday trip to California.
Miss Winnie Armstrong,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.D.
Armstrong of R,R.3, Bayfield,
has left for Toronto where she
has accepted a position in the
Thistletown Treatment Centre
as a child care worker.
Mr. Ken Pollock and Miss Jane
of H.ensall were Sunday guests
of Ken's mother, Mrs, Milton
Pollock, Goshen Line.
Mr. and Mrs. E. Walter
Erickson attended the funeral
on Friday in Exeter of a long-
time armed services friend, the
late Stanley Horrell.
BAYFIELD 1 -4-11 CLUB
The second meeting of Bay-
field I was held at the home of
Mrs. Chapman, on Tuesday,
March 9. The discussion took
place on what we were going to
do for Achievement Day and the
harmony and colours. Mrs. Chap-
man and Mrs. Phoenix demonst-
rated how to get the material
ready and how to trace on a pat-
tern.
