The United Church women met
Thursday afternoon in the S.S.
rooms with 16 in attendance.
President, Mrs. Eleanor Duric,
chaired the business part of the
meeting.
The Huron Presbytery meeting
which was to be held February 4,
and cancelled on account of a
snow storm, will be held at
Brucefield on March 17.
The ladies had a letter of
thanks from the Canadian Bible
Society. for used stamps sent to
them. The roll call was answered
by "Something Irish".
Mrs. Mabel Gill was in charge
of worship and program. The
Scripture was read responsively
from Chapter 26 of Matthew,
Verses 17-25,
Mrs. Gill spoke on the Lenten
season and self denial, and laws
of today and yesterday, and
thoughts on prejudice. All
repeated together the "Ten
Commandments", and 13 verses
from Chapter 13 of Corinthians
on Charity.
A solo "Standing in the need of
prayer" was sung by Mrs. Olive
Miller with Mrs. H. Moore
accompanying on the piano.
An enjoyable dialogue skit,
titled "Self Seeking", was pre-
sented by Mrs. Raymond Kading,
Mrs. Alec Hamilton, Mrs. Mabel
Gill and Mrs. Iva Latta. Lunch
hostesses were Mrs. Josie Love,
and Mrs. Marjorie Mason.
The United Church women
catered for lunches for the
Hodgins -Hayter training school
for Kraft machinery held in the
Legion Hall last Wednesday and
'Thursday.
Funeral services were held last
Saturday, from F. Harry Hoffman
Funeral Horne for Russell Gill,
of Brampton. and formerly of
Grind Bend.
He passed away Wednesday,
March 10. at Peel Memorial
Hospital. Brampton, in his 69th
year.
Survived by his wife Olive Mae
(Black). two daughters, (Nancy
Lou) Mrs. Benson Reynolds.
(Mary Elizabeth) Mrs. Ralph Van
Dusen, both of Brampton, and
one son Joseph Morgan of Missi-
ssauga, 4 grandchildren, one
sister (Eloise) Mrs. Keith Charl-
ton, of Mount Brydges, three
brothers, Wellwood of Grand
Bend, Willis of Stephen town-
ship, Douglas of Crediton.
Temporary entombment with
burial later at Grand Bend Ceme-
tery.

Pallbearers were Ed, Douglas,
Joe and Emmerson Gill, Keith
Charlton and Bruce Higgs.
Church of God
The Church of God ladies net
Thursday evening for their March
meeting at the home of Mrs.
Phyllis Desjardine with 14 attend-
ing. Roll call was answered by a
poem on prayer.
Mrs. Millie Desjardine con-
ducted the worship service on
prayer.
Mrs. Katie Vincent conducted
the study lesson with a story
about St. Patrick, and work of
missionary's, Mr. & Mrs. Ron
Shotton, in Panama. Lunch
concluded the meeting.

Donald Hoggarth, Mrs. Irene
Kennedy, Mrs. Mary Barbour of
Toronto, attended the funeral,
Thursday afternoon, of their
cousin Mrs. Margaret (Hoggarth)
Ingram, at Hensall.
The men's club of Church of
God, held their meeting last
Monday evening with 12 in
different use of color schemes
and showed stiches they will
attendance. Special speaker was
George Clemens of the Depart-
ment of Natural Resources,
Mr, & Mrs. Clarke Kennedy,
and Mrs. S.M. Barbour of
Toronto returned Monday after
spending five weeks in Panama
City, Florida. Two of the Ken-
nedy's children, (Mary Lynn)
Mrs. Brad Hamilton, of London,
and Jim Kennedy, of Toronto,
spent a few days with them, trav-
elling down by bus and flying
home.
Mrs. Agnes Patterson had
the misfortune to fall last Thurs-
day in Dashwood and broke her
hip. She is in St.. Josephs Hospi-
tal, Sarnia, where she underwent
surgery and a pin inserted
Friday.
4-H Clubs
The Grand Bend 4-H Club held
their meeting last Monday even-
ing in the S.S. rooms of the
United Church. Eleven girls
attended along with the two
leaders, Mrs. J. Smeekcns and
Mrs. A. Walper.
Officers elected were presi-
dent, Ellen Vanden Bygaart;
vice-president, Deb Ford; secre-
tary, Teresa Backx; press record-
er, Mathildc Van Leeuwen.
This course is on "A Touch of
Stitchcry". They will be making
a place mat or runner and dis-
cussed amount of material need-
ed, colour, choosing material and
design and how to transfer a
pattern.

arrears interest
Grand Bend council will again
be asking the Ontario Ministry
of Revenue to increase the limit
of interest which may be charged
on tax arrears.
More than a year ago, a resolu-
tion was sent out to a number of
municipalities asking for support
in upping the maximum interest
rate from one percent per month.
Monday, Bob Sharen in
suggesting a repeat request
said, "we received good support
from other councils but no
action from the government.
Clerk -treasurer Louise Clip-
perton said taxes currently in
arrears amount to $47,025.
An agreement with the London
Humane Society was approved
Monday night by Grand Bend
council.
The London Society will
provide exclusive patrols for
$800 per annum.
Extra patrols will be provided
for g$7 per hour and 20 cents
per mile for travelling expenses.
Councillor Bill Baird suggest-
ed, "extra patrols would - be
worth while during the month of
May.

Earlier in the meeting council-
lor Harold Green commented,
"the dogs are out of this' world
this week."
When the meeting adjourned
and councillors left the village
hall they were met by five dogs

box, purchase fabric and em-
broidery thread, pre -shrink ma-
terial and bring to next meeting.
Mrs, Roy Morenz, Glenda and
Tammy spent a couple of days
recently in Kitchener, with her
sister and brother-in-law, Mr. &
Mrs. Ezra Kneisel,
Couples Club
The Grand Bend Couples Club
met Saturday evening in the
S.S, rooms of the church w'th 18
attending.
Rev. & Mrs. H, Moore conduct-
ed the worship service, with the
theme on "Family Happiness".
Special speaker was Constable
Tony Jaegger who spoke on
crime prevention and also showed
a film.
Mrs. Gerry Love was in charge
of the social time and conducted
several fun games,
