held at Varna Church

The World Day of Prayer ser-
vice for the Varna -Goshen charge
was held in Goshen Church on
March 5. Mrs. Bruce Keys
led the service, with Mrs. Elmer
Hayter at the organ. Taking part
in the scenes concerning poverty
and prepression in Latin Ameri-
can countries were Mrs. Elmer
Hayter, Mrs. Allan Hayter and
daughter Shelley, Mrs. Elgin
McKinley and Mrs. Berne Mc-
Kinley.
Mrs. Bruce Keys gave an out-
line of the geography and living
conditions of the Latin American
countries, whose Christian
women prepared the prayer ser-
vice for this year on the theme
EDUCATION -FOR ALL OF LIFE.
Mrs. Berne McKinley and Mrs.
Allan Hayter sang a duet. A
short social time was enjoyed
after the service.
The Varna United Church
Women held a successful pancake
supper on March 9 in the church
basement. Approximately 150
people were fed,
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hayter
celebrated their thirty-fifth
wedding anniversary on March 8
at a family dinner at the home of
their daughter Gordond son-in-law, G
Mr. and Mrs. Lavis of
Clinton. Their mothers, Mrs.
Richard Robinson and Mrs. Wm.
Hayter were able to attend,
Present also were their five child-
ren with their wives and hus-
bands, and their twelve grand-
children.
The talbe was centered with a
three-tier wedding cake, and the
family presented them with a
table lamp.
Mr. and Mrs. James Laing of
Mississauga spent the weekend
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Bruce Keys, and attended the
Steven Keys - Linda Poelmaan
wedding.
Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Elliott
and erin of Toronto visited with
Mrs. Florence Elliott and Norman
and Walter Smith last weekend.

The first meeting of Zurich
1 "Nimble Thimbles" was held
at the ome of Dayle Leppington
on February 18. We,repeated our
pledge and answered the roll
call. We elected our officers
which are as follows: president,
Betty Pennings; press reporter,
Joanne McBride. Other members
include Jill and Julia Armstrong,
Brenda McKinley, Nelly Van
Wonderen. We discussed the
colour wheel and our work box.
Our likeable leaders aro Gerald-
ine Eckel and Dayle Leppington.
The second meeting Of Zurich
1 was held at Dayle Leppington 's
on February 26. We opened the
meeting' with the 4-H pledge
and roll call. We discussed

We would like to extend a sincere "Thank You"
to ali residents for their patience and co-operation
during the trying times of the recent ice storm.
Thanks to the local utility manager and road
superintendent for their excellent efforts, and
local,electricians for supplying emergency heat.
Also, to all those who helped in the general
clean-up.

The Minimum Wage rates for Ontario went up on Monday, March
15th. If you are presently earning minimum wage, read the
following schedule to find out what your new rate will be.
New
imum rates
General minimum, hourly $ 2.65
General learner rate, hourly 2.55
(during first month of employment)
Construction rate, hourly 2.90
Guard on construction projects, hourly 2.90
Student rate, hourly 2.15
(applies to students under 18, who work 28 hours
or less per week, or during school holidays)
Ambulance industry rate:
a) weekly
b) hourly (less than 48 hrs. a week) 2.65
NEW: Minimum hourly rate for an employee who
serves liquor directly to a customer, guest, member
or patron in any place operating under license
or permit issued under Liquor License Act. $ 2.50
New room andboard board rates
The following maximum rates apply when room and board are
used in calculating minimum wage:
