Set April 10 deadline
for burning on beach
The deadline for burning of
tree limbs on the parking lot of
the main beach at Grand Bend
has been set at April 10.
Village council agreed Monday
night to allow residents to bring
tree branches from the recent
ice storm to the beach area for
burning.
Council will be sending out
notice to property owners inform-
ing them of the burning which
will be supervised by the Grand
Bend fire department.
Deputy -reeve Rollie Grenier
and councillor Bill Baird suggest-
ed the April 10 date was too late.
Councillor Bob Simpson
argued, "if we have bad weather
on weekends it will take that
long to complete the job. Some
people only come to their cottages
on Saturday.'
Reeve Bob Sharen said he was
heard on London and Sarnia
radio stations telling summer
property owners in those cities
of the burning service being
provided.
Baird replied, "if any owners
haven't heard about the storm
by April 10, it's their problem."
Reeve Sharen's comment was,
"it could be a problem. if they
dump the tree debris in places
other than the designated area.
Road superintendent Gary
Desjardine reported that most
owners had cleaned up their
properties. He added, "there's
just a small percentage of strag-
glers left."

Road foreman Gary Desjardine
was given permission to hire
additional help frtim March 15
to Labour Day as needed.
Approval was given to purchase
a chain saw valued at about $200.
Desjardine told council he
would do the necessary repairs
to the village's boat docks.
Discussion took place on the
need for restricting the weight
of trucks using village streets
with the use of half laod limit
signs.
Reeve Bob Sharers said a
portion of Lake Road appeared
to be breaking up and the con-
dition could worsen with the
passage of heavy loads. Mrs.
Bea Clarke, a councillor from
Thedford attended Monday's
council meeting for preliminary
discussion on the possibility
of Thedford using the- Grand
Bend waste disposal site.
Mrs. Clarke wasn't sure with
lirr cost figures but thought
Thedford was presently paying
about $200 per month to have
garbage taken to Watford.
Councillor Bill Baird replied,
"There's no way we can touch
it for 1200 per month. We pay
$20 per hour for our bulldozer
and now we use it seven hours
per week for our own use."
Mrs. Clarke is to continue
negotiations with the Grand Bend
waste disposal site committee
when she gets more information.
