World Jay of Prayer
Hensall World Day of Prayer
was held in St. Paul's Anglican
Church on Friday, March 12.
The speaker, Rev. G.A. Anderson
took as his subject, "Prayer"
illustrating it with the contrast-
ing lives of Mary and Martha,
.1 esus' friends.
The order of service was pre-
pared by the native women of
Latin America with the theme,
"Education --for all of Life".
Taking part as leaders were Mrs.
Frank Forrest, Mrs. Harold
Parker and Mrs. John Solden.
Those giving Bible readings were
Mrs. Harold Bell and Mrs. Jack
Brintnell, and presenting short
skits were Mrs. Ian McAllister,
Mrs. Audrey Christie, Mrs. Ron
Waring, Mrs. Edison Forrest and
Mrs. Carl Payne. Depicted was
"The Reality of Poverty, Rela-
tionships and Repression". The
service concluded with "The Re-
sponsibility of the Church". Mrs.
R. Middleton assisted at the
organ.
Unit 1 U.C.W.
Unit 1 of hensall U.C.W. held
their March meeting on Thurs-
day, March 11 with helen God-
dard presiding. She read a poem,
••Smile".
For her devotional theme, she
read quotations from one of Peter
Marshall's messages entitled,
"Good Medicine". This is the
result of being a happy person,
which is quoted in Proverbs 17:
"A merry heart doeth good
like a medicine, bot a broken
spirit drieth the bones." First
\ye must rid our hearts of wrong
and sins by asking God for
t'orgiveness, then we should try
0 forget, putting our sins in the
east, then be cheerful. helen

made Christmas card. Donations
to the child were received,
Leader Eileen McLean con-
ducted the business as follows:
postponed Huron -Perth Presby-
tery meeting at Brucefield U.C.
on March 17, ladies to bring a
lunch; invitations to Zurich at
8.p.m. April 1 and to Kippen at
8 p.m. April 13. The General
meeting April 5, Unit 1 respon-
sible for lunch. April 6 a Food
Forum to be held in Clinton
High School. To conclude, all
.repeated the Benediction. Wil
Beck played some musical rec-
ords during our Social hour.
Hostess Verna Hay was assisted
by Audrey Christie. The April
meeting is cancelled.
Zone C 1 Public Speaking for
Hensall-Zurich Area was held in
the Hensall Legion Hall on Friday
evening, March 12. Legion
1st Vice -President Grant McClin-
chey and Legion Padre Rev.
Blackwell acted as Chairmen.
In the Junior Division winners
were; first, John McAllister,
Zurich Public School; second,
Mary -Ellen Ducharme, of St.
Boniface School; and third, Linda
Mathonia also of St. Boniface
P.S.
others competing in this divis-
ion were Paul Johnston, Kathy
Love and Kim Dobson of Zurich
Public School and Brenda Roose-
boonm and Jacqueline Hyde of
hensall Public School.
In the Senior Division the win-
ners were Donna Miller, first;
Rosemary Duttman, second, both
of St. Boniface School; and third,
Ilona Schaufler of hensall Public
School. Others competing in the
senior division were Janet
McAllister, Brenda Miller and
Brenda Riddell all of Zurich
Public School andMarilyn Pepper
and Michelle Trebner of hensall
Public School. Judges were
Mrs. Robert Allen, Brucefield,
Mrs. Donald Webster, Exeter
and Mrs. Ronald McGregor,
Kippen. The winners competed
again at the final at the Seaforth
Leion on Saturday afternoon.
Mr. &:. Mrs. Harry Hoy return-
ed home after spending several
days at the home of their son
Michael in London caring for their
grandson, Aaron while their
daughter-in-law was in St.
Joseph's Hospital with a new
baby girl Alyson Wendy.
South Huron students
top public speaking
Two students from South
Huron District High School.
walked off with two of the top
prizes at the Legion Zone C1,
public speaking contest in
Seaforth Saturday.

In the morning session for
secondary school students,
Grades 9 and 10, Lucy Van
Eshrocck of Hensall placed first
Hensall 4-1-1Clubs
The third meeting of Hensall I
"Lazy Daisies" was held on
March 9 at the hensall United
Church. The roll call, The colour
harmony of my learning stitches"
was answered by 9 girls. Our
leader, Chert Riley discussed with
us how to create a design. Quest-
ions were answered'•and designs
created. Cheryl demonstrated
the twisted chain stitch which was
tried by each girl.
The third meeting of hensall II
"Thrifty Threaders" was held on
March 9 in Hensall U.C. The
roll call "The colour harmony of
my learning stitches" was ans-
wered by 12 girls. The leaders
demonstrated on how to do the
twisted chain stitch. We also
read about how to create a design
and we tried creating a few
designs. -

During the afternoon session
for elementary students, John
Lawson of RR 2, Clinton placed
first in the junior division for
Grades 4 to 6. The 11 -year old
Grade 6 student at Hullet Central
School, Londesboro, spoke on
Charles Schultz, the creator of
the comic strip Peanuts -- Charlie
Brown, Snoopy andpals•.
In the senior division Grades
7 and 8 Connie Baer of RR 5,
Goderich, was first with her talk
on Inflation. The 13 -year old
student is in Grade 8 at Colborne
Township Central School at
Goderich.
The four students were among
35 young people who gave
speeches to a crowd of 200 at
Seaforth Legion Hall. The contest
is sponsored annually by the 12
Legion branches in District C -l.
Runners up were: in the junior

the senior secondary Ernest
McMillan of Goderich with A
