Flyers ousted by Arkon
On Sunday afternoon the
Zurich Flyers were eliminated
from further competition as they
were edged 10-9 by Arkona in
an exciting contest in the local
arena.
The Flyers did not seem to get
on track until the second period
They posted Arkona to a 5-1 first
period lead.
Bill Frazier opened the scoring
at 3:00 when he took a pass from
Bill Horner's
Ted McChale and fired it pass
Jim Wildfong. Only 10 seconds
later the Provis were ahead 2.0
as Ted McChale flashed the red
light with help from Frazier and
Larry Marriott. One minute and
37 seconds later it was 3-0
Arkona when Ed Moloy took a
pass from Don Hodgins and put
it in the net. At 9:37 Ted Mc—
Chale scored unassisted for his"
second goal of the game. The

Flyers finally got on the score-
board at 10:45 when Kevin Mc—
Kinnon took a pass from Ron
Corriveau and slipped it pass
Wayne Clemens. Before the
period ended at 18:52 Bill Frazier
scored his second goal of the
period when he converted passes
from Ted McChale and Norm
Stewart.
The Flyers came out skating
and working hard in the second
period as it only took one minute
and thirty seconds before Kim
McKinnon took a pass from
brother Kevin and closed the
gap 5-2. A minute and four sec-
onds later Pat Bedard had Zurich
within two as he took a pass
from Ken Smale and put it in the
net. At 9:24 Kevin McKinnon
got his second of the game on a
set up by Glen Overholt. Arkona
scored a power play goal at
12:37 when Ted McChale picked
up his third of the game on passes
from Bill Frazier and Mark Don-
ald. With only one second
remaining in the period Bill
Frazier got the hattrick when he
took a pass from Jim Laird and
blinked the light to make it
7-4 Arkona after two periods.
The Flyers came out strong
again and this time it took only 35
seconds. Captain Ron Corriveau
broke in to score as he took a
pass from Ron Rader. At 4:45
Ron Desjardine had Zurich within
one again as he converted passes
from Bob Farqhuar and Pat
Bedard. The Flyers tied the game
at 8:21 on a pretty goal by Kim
McKinnon when he
tookasses
from Richard Schilbe and Glen
Overholt. A power play goal at
9:03 cost the Flyers the Lead as
Ted McChale picked up his
fourth goal of the game with a
hand from Bill Frazier and Ed
Moloy. Only 50 seconds later
Ed Moloy made it 9-7 Arkona as
he converted passes from Don
Hodgins and Larry Marriott.
But the Flyers didn't let up and
at 11:58 Ron Rader got a power
play goal to make it 9-8. At
15:45 Glen Overholt tied the
game, with nifty moves to pull
goaltender Clemens and slip
the puck behind him. Bob
Merner drew the Ione assist
on the goal. With only two
minutes and twenty seconds
left in the third period Don
Hodgins scored the winner to give
Arkona the victory and the
series. Joe Moloy and Ed Moloy
were credited with assists on
the goal.
Eleven minor penalties were
handed out to the Arkona crew
while the Flyers picked up seven
minors, a misconduct and a match
penalty.
Ted McChale was awarded the
first star of the game, while
teammate Ed Moloy was selected
second star followed by Kevin
McKinnon of Zurich.
The Flyers and their manage-
ment would like to thank every-
one who supported them through-
out the season.

the series and came up with an
impressive. display to down
Arkona 6-2.
The Flyers scored the only, goal
of the first period on a goal by.
Pat Bedard at 13:40. Ron Des-
jardine and Ron Corriveau drew
assists on the goal.
Ron Desjardine put Zurich
ahead 2-0 at 8:17 of the middle
period with help from teammates
Jim Ramer and Bob . Farquar
But onlyseconds 18 Seco ds later Arkona
cut the gap to 2-1 as Mark Donald
blinked the light with a scramble
in front of the Flyer net. Percy
Bedard stopped about three shots
before Donald found the range.
Bill Frazier and Don Hodgins
collected the assists. At 9:12 Ron
Rader scored Zurich's third goal
of the game as he converted
passes from Derek O'Brien and
Ron Corriveau.
Richard Schilbe received a cut
to the chin early in the first period
which required ten stitches
to close. Schilbe returned to
action in the second period and
fired in two goals. His first goal
made it 4-1 Zurich at. 13:49 as
he converted passes from captain
Ron Corriveau and Dave Cyr. At
17.09 Schilbe found the range

Zurich pee wees
reach WOAA final
Zurich won 4-2 on Wednesday,
February 25; lost at Lion's
Head 4-3, and knocked Lion's
Head out in the final, blasting
them 9-2 on Sunday, February 29.

On Wednesday in the first
period, Zurich didn't seem to be
able to get on track and let
Lion's Head take a 1-0 lead.
Finally, well on in the second,
Robert Willert notched a goal,
assisted by Kris Bedard. Then
40 seconds later, Kris Bedard put
Zurich ahead on a lone attempt.
However, Lion's Head came right
back to tie the game 2-2.
The thirdp eriod was com-
manded by Zurich as they got
two unanswered goals, both by
Robert Willert with David Smith
assisting on one and. Jim Willert
on the other. The "Big Guy"
in this game was Bob Hay in
the net, as he came up with key
saves time and time again.
Lion's Head 4 Zurich 3
On Thursday, Bob Hay again
played his best to keep Zurich
in the game, but Lion's Head
nipped Zurich to tie the series.
There was no scoring in the
first period, but a lot of check-
ing.
Then in the second Lion's
Head scored and kept the lead
until the last five minutes when
Kris Bedard beat the goalie,
unassisted. Lion's Head came
right back, with less than a
minute, to go ahead again.
Robert Willert tied the game
again, aided by Kris Bedard.
Before the period ended,
Lion's Head went ahead once
more. In the third period, Lion's
Head came out with a quick goal
to take a 4-2 lead, but finally
Zurich began to skate in the
last few minutes and Kris Bedard
notched another goal with Robert
Willert assisting, and almost
came up with another in the final
seconds.

On Sunday Zurich finally came
out of their shell and came up
with a much better played game.
The first period was a draw
Kris Bedard scoring first, aided
by Jim

Willett and Lion's Head
from Davis. Zurich added four
big goals in the second when
Kris Bedard and Robert Willert
each tallied a pair with David
Smith assisting on two, and
Chris Denomme assisting on the
other two.
In the final frame Robert
Willert went on a scoring streak
to give him six goals in the
game, while Lion's Head man-
aged to get one . The first
one by Robert was assisted by
David Smith and Brian Horner,
the next one unassisted, another
assisted by Kris Bedard and the
final goal aided by Wayne
McKinnon.
Zurich now plays a best of
3 series with Drayton for the
W.O.A.A. "E" Championship
with the first game in Drayton,
Tuesday, March 2 and the next
in Zurich, Wednesday, March 3.
