Zurich minor hockey
NOVICE BLANKED BY GB
Zurich novices were shutout
6-0 in Minor Hockey Day action
at the Zurich arena on. Saturday.
Both teams played well and it
was a close race in the first
frame as neither team could
score.
Grand Bend pulled ahead
3-0 in the second on goals by
Chris Tiedeman with a pair and
Darin Courtney with one.
Three more Grand Bend goals
were unanswered in the third.
Tiedeman and Courtney both
added another and Buddy Rich-
ardson added his first of the
game.
Albert Vandenbygaart regist-
ered the shutout for Grand Bend.
ATOMS EDGE BAYFIELD
Zurich atoms edged Bayfield
4-3 in action at Zurich on Satur-
day, Minor Hockey Day.
Ba,'field pulled ahead 2-0 in
the first on goals by David
Phoenix and David Telford and
pulled ahead 3-0 early in the sec -
Mites and
house league
Zurich's Minor Hockey Day
was held Saturday with games
all day long at the local arena.
To open the day there were
lots of laughs and fun as the
house league and mites formed
teams, the Colours and the
W hites.
Despite valiant efforts, onlly
one goal was scored by Sandra
Willert in the second period to
give the Whites the win. Jeff
Laporte assisted on the goal
while Dwayne Laporte got the
shut -out.
Most valuable player awards
went to Paul Lavery for the
Colours, Sandra Willert for the
Whites in House league while
Mite awards went to Jeff Hoff-
man for the Colours and Derrick
Martin for the Whites.
Lose t. Myth
On Friday, February 13, Blyth
Atoms visited Bayfield defeating
Bayfield 10 to 3 in the first game
in a series, the best three out of
five. Robbie Siertsema earned a
hat -trick getting all three goals.
Assisting were Darin Telford (2)
and Robbie Chapman (one).
On Saturday, February 14.,
Bayfield Pee Wees travelled to
Scaforth to play their final game
of their series against Dublin
and were defeated by a score of
3-1. Scoring the lone goal for
Bayfield was Brian Van AAken
with an assist from Jeff Merner
and Andrew Couper.

Zurich were good for one in
the second with Dean Armstrong
scoring from Paul Overholt.
Three unanswered Zurich goals
gave the atoms the 4-3 win.
Scoring plays were Paul Johnston
from Rich Kuepfer, Paul John-
ston from Dean Armstrong and
the final goal George Blackwell
from Jeff Laporte.
ATOM PLAYOFFS
On Wednesday, February 11,
Zurich atoms edged Grand Bend
5-4 in a close fought game.
Early in the game Zurich held
the lead, pullin ahead 2-0 in the
first. Dwayne Laporte scored
from Doug Scahe and later Dean
Armstrong clicked on a pass from
Paul Overholt.
Zurich scored the lone goal of
the second period, Paul Johnston
from Dean Armstrong.
In the third, Johnston scored
again for a 4-0 lead with Deric
McKinnon assisting before Grand
Bend finally broke Greg O'Bri-
en's shutout.
Todd Tiedeman scored from
Randy Ford followed by Robbie
Merner's goal from Dean Court-
ney to make it 4-2.
Zurich added the winner by
Paul Johnston with Rick Kuepfer
assisting.
Two late Grand Bend goals,
Courtney unassisted. and Doug
Shipley assisted by Richard
Brown, weren't enough to over-
come Zurich'G in^ '
RECEIVES B.A.—Miss Maryke
DeMooy recently graduated from
Calvin College, in Grand Rapids,
Michigan, with a bachelor of arts
degree in elementary education.
Maryke is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Abram DeMooy,
Zurich. She is a graduate of
Zurich Public School and South
Huron District High School in
Exeter. She has accepted a
grade six teaching position at
Calvin Christian School in Dray-
ton, Ontario.
