SILVER STICK Zurich downed Alvinston 4-3 in an exciting game in Silver Stick action in Watford on Friday. Alvinston took a 2-0 lead in the, first and went ahead 3-0 in the second before Robert Willert broke the goose egg for Zurich By Ross Haugh The third annual Exeter Lions club sponsored Sportsmen's Dinner is quickly approaching and Lions president Frank Giffin and dinner chairman Murray Moore and a hard working executive are busy lining up an excellent array of speakers. The main speakers at the first two dinners were American baseball umpire Emmett Ashford and Canadian basketball coach Jack Donohoe. • This time it will be another umpire but a switch has been made to the national league. Heading the guest list will be a former senior loop arbiter Tom Gorman. He is one of the top after dinner speakers in North America. The chores of master of ceremonies will be more than capably handled by Tuffy Knight, coach of the Wilfred Laurier University football team. We have seen and heard Tuffy on two occasions and he is never at a loss for words. He is a very positive thinker and instills this attitude into hisla ers. Every time Knight takes his team into a game he says they are going to win. If by chance they happen to lose, he classes it as only a "temporary setback." There has been a change in the Detroit Tiger representa- tive at the February 3 dinner. Willie Horton, who was the top designated hitter in the majors last year was scheduled to appear here but the same night he is to be recognized as the top DH. Horton will be replaced by the Tiger rookie of 1975 Verne Ruhle. Verne is one of the newest Tiger pitchers and is being counted on to help the Bengals to better things in 1976. Most other sports will be represented by top notch person- nel giving the dinner an excellent chance of being the best ever held here. Almost forgot. Ladies are also welcome at this event, and why not! *** While talking of the top speaking' talents from the sports sector we should not lose sight of the main purpose of the dinner. All proceeds from the Lions Sportsmen's Dinner go to aid Crippled Children throughout Western Ontario. Tickets are now on sale for $25 and can be obtained from any member of the Exeter Lions club. Here's a chance for all sports fans to enjoy three or four hours with a variety of sports celebrities and also help the less fortunate. Receipts will be issued for income tax purposes..
