Administrative staff get raises
The Huron -Perth County
Roman Catholic Separate School
Board approved salary increases
for its administrative office staff
at a meeting in. Dublin Monday
night. All the increases are the
maximumP ermitted according to

the anti-inflation guideline,
effective January 1, 1976.
The 1976 salary for Jack Lane,
Superintendent of Business and
Finance will be increased by
$2,230 to $22,230; and for• Ed
Rowland, Co-ordinator of Plant
and Maintenance, by $1,025
to $13,525.
The board office weekly salary

rates were set as follows: payroll
clerk, $147.5.5; accounting clerk,
$145.55; secretary to Director of
Education, $152.30; secretary to
Academic Superintendent,
$143.15; secretary to Superinten-
dent of Business and Finance,
$153.45 and secretary to consul-
tants, $128.80.
Effective September 1, 1975,
hourly wages of school office clerk
typists were advanced by 331 to
$3.63.

weekends for personal trips.
In British Columbia, learning
drivers are being given
rebates up to $50 to pay for
driver -education courses. The
Insurance Corporation and the
Motor -Vehicle Branch are co-
sponsoring the program.
To save gas, avoid idling
engine for a long time. When
you start, let engine run for
about 30 seconds, until oil has
begun to circulate. Then drive
slowly until car has warmed
up.
American serviceman station-
ed in England bought a
double-decker bus for inex-
pensive vacations with his
wife, seven children, sheepdog
and poodle. Upper deck is
now bedrooms and bathroom,
plus observation platform.
Sorry, fresh out of double-decker
buses. (Inconvenient to garage,
anyway.) But have you seen the wide

Perth unit of Ontario English
Catholic Teachers' Association
sponsoring a system wide public
speaking contest which will be
open to all students from Grades
4 through 8 in all the separate
elementary schools in Huron
and Perth Counties. The Com-
petition will be at two levels --
intermediate from Grades 7 and
8 and junior from Grades 4, 5 and
6.

The school winners for each
division will compete at a zone
level where a first and second
place winner in each division
will be decided and the zone
winners will compete in a system
competition early in March.
Awards will be presented to the
winning schools and winning
individuals and participation
awards will be presented to all
other contestants.
