Council endorsed a resolution
from the township of Stephen
opposing a nuclear plant in Huron
until an intensive study is done.
'Id like to see answers to some of
those questions too,' Councillor
Baker said.
Councillor Knight objected that
those who are against the power
plant wouldn't put pollution
control devices on their tractors,
which pollute as much as a power
station. He said people pick on
Ontario Hydro 'including myself'
because it's 'an easy dog to whip'
and don't start at home where
they should.
Therovincial subsidy on
streets for 1976' will be $6300,
up from $5900 last year, council.
learned.
Councillor Paul Neilands
reported that the dump was in
good shape and that the gate had
been fixed to prevent people.
taking it off its hinges.
Councillor Leonard Erb was
re -appointed Hensall rep to the
Ausable Bayfield Conservation
Authority.
Zurich UCW
Zurich United Church Women
held their regular meeting on
Wednesday afternoon, January 7.
Mrs. L. Erb presided for the
worship service. The Scripture
was read by Mrs. Nancy Koehl-
er.
Two duets were given by Mrs.
K. Breakey and Mrs. W. Neeb
accompanied by Mrs. M. Oesch.
The members of the program
committee for the month each
contributed a short article on
"Thoughts for a New Year."
These ladies were .Mrs. N.
Gascho, Mrs, K. Breakey and
Mrs. L. Erb. ,
Mrs. R. Grainger, the new
president occupied the chair for
the business. Rev. B. Guy inst-
alled Mrs. Don Rawlings as
second vice-president.
Roll call was answered by
payment of fees with two new
members being added to the roll.
It was decided that the Febru-
ary meeting would be held one
week later, on February 11, as
Huron Presbyterial meets in
Brucefield United Church on
February 4.
It is also planned to have the
quilting on February 11 if suit-
able.
What happens if we have both
trucks at a fire in Hensall and
another alarnt comes in? he
asked. If Exeter is your standby,
ask them to go. 'It's taster than
rolling up the hose yourselves and
going', councillor Harold Knight
thought, and he told the new chief
to talk it all over with the fire-
men's mutual aid organization.
The chief asked council to
outline what the boundaries for
fire protection from the Hensall
department are.
There really aren't any solid
boundaries since the fire area
board was established, Reeve
John Baker said. 'You really
have to go anywhere in Hay or
Tuckersmith if you are called'.
Under the fire area agreement,
all ratepayers in the two
townships are paying towards the
new Hensall truck, he said. He
said the chief could suggest that a
caller from out of the usual area
call their proper department and
could then go to the fire anyway.
'Then you could always leave if
the others got their first', he
said.
Councillors approved Chief
Hyde's request that Hensall
firemen be covered by $15,000
compensation rather than
$10,000.

the job for 24 years, will be stay-

Reeve John Baker asked the
two town employees why it was
necessary for them both to ride
on the village snowplow. He said
the practise wasn't safe and that
they shouldn't need two men.
Mr. Maxwell explained that an
extra man was needed to adjust
the snowblower to keep from
filling in laneways. The reeve
didn't agree. Next time streets
are being cleaned he'll show it
can be done and you don't need
two men to do it. .
'Yes, you can bring your
camera,' he said with a grin.
