MR. AND MRS. THOMAS HAMILL
St. Boniface Roman Catholic Church, Zurich, Ontario was the setting of
marriage between Audry Diane Oesch and Thomas James Hamill,
September 17, 1977. Father Denys officiated at the double ring
ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Oesch,
Varna, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Hamill, London.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a chiffon gown with
lace bodice and cathedral length train. Her headpiece was composed
of yellow roses and stephanotis with a waist length pleated chiffon
veil flowing behind. This complemented her bouquet of orchids and
yellow and pink roses with trailing stephanotis and ivy. The matron of
honour was Miss Janet Oesch and the flower girl was Tracey Pugsley.
The bridesmaids were Ms. Carol Pugsley and Mrs. Koren Myles. The
best man was Brian Hamill and guests were ushered by Byron McLeod
and Wayne Wright. Raymond Oesch was the ring bearer. Following
the ceremony the wedding couple were honoured by a dinner and
dance at the Exeter Legion Hall. Music was supplied by Versatility of
London. After a wedding trip to the Eastern States and the Poconos
Mountains Mr. and Mrs. Hamill are residing in London.

We get maid from Isle of Wight
Newspapers receive a lot of
mail; some of it interesting, some
not so interesting,
Back in September we received.
a brown envelope from of all
places, the Isle of Wight. The
envelope was addressed to 'The
Hensall Observer (or equivalent
now), Huron County, Ontario,
Canada.
The return address said 'Mrs.
Edith Wainwright, 7 Mountbatten
Avenue, West Cowles, Isle of
Wight, England.'
Inside the envelope was a letter
from Mrs. Wainright and a copy
of the Hensall Observer dated
October 8, 1903.
The letter explains that Mrs.
Wainright was about to destroy
the newspaper 'as it will not last
much longer and I have but
suddenly thought my mother's
wedding notice was in it.'
She goes on to explain that 'My
father left England about 1903, he
wanted to be a `farmer', but soon
after he arrived, he caught
rheumatic fever, so no good for
farming, it ruined his health and
died at age 53. He left Staffa, then
returned, I was born there in 1906
in Hibbert township, We had a
photo taken at `Burgess', Mit-
chell, Ontario, We later lived at
162 McCaul Street in Toronto. My
father was a Tailor by trade and
we left Canada in 1909.',
The newspaper offers an in-
teresting glimpse into life around
the turn of the century. Gladman
and Stanbury, lawyers, had of-
fices in Hensall over Stoneman's
store and in Exeter over O'Neil's
bank. F.A, Sellery, L.D.S.,
dentist, had an office in the
MacArthur Block in Hensall and
'Will visit Zurich every Monday.'
