SPICE ADVICE
Many people today are advised to cut back on their salt and sugar consumption.
This does not mean that they have to settle for bland foods. Ease the transition
with spices! Sodium watchers should avoid dried parsley and celery flakes, but
there are many other spices to accent a dish: Use them with imagination • taste
and test, then taste again - but begin moderately, because It's impossible to
remedy too much seasoning In a dish. Here are some suggestions for spicing
up rice:
Turkimace,cloh ves, black pepperav: rice cooked �garnin shedwithcurroth and antsandd almonds other allspice,
uts.
Italian Risotto: rice cooked in bouillon and seasoned with onion flakes, saffron
and black pepper. White wine and grated Parmesan choose add an Italian
accent.
Browned Rice: rice cooked in unsalted margarine then boiled with chopped
onion and sage.
As a side dish, add to cooked rice golden•browned mushrooms and chopped
almonds or sesame seeds.
