HomeMy WebLinkAboutZurich Citizens News, 1977-11-10, Page 5Special communion held at Huronview A special Communion Service was held Sunday morning, at Huronview conducted by the Chaplain Rev. McWhinnie, and organist Douglas Crich, The Auditorium was filled to capacity Monday afternoon for the annual Hallowe'en party. A good number of the residents and staff were in costume and everyone enjoyed an hour of Old Tyme music and dancing. The music was provided by Marie Flynn, Lorne Lawson, Norman Teachers stage annual banquet A welcome was extended to all present by the President of the Huron Association, Carol Simons. After a delicious dinner, there was a sing song led by Ruth Shaddick and Marjorie Freeman of Goderich. Greetings from the ad- ministration came from Robert Allan and Shirley Hazlitt who spoke on behalf of the Board and Lillian Thompson, Federation Director brought words from Toronto: Marjorie Freeman introduced the guest speaker Dan Mansell, Regional Parks Superintendent of the Minister of Natural Resources, Wingham. He spoke on land use ethics. He was thanked by Susan Braid. After the business part of the meeting was over, nine teachers new to the profession were in- ducted by Lillian Thompson, director. The fall banquet of the Federated Women Teachers Associations of Ontario was held Wednesday October 26 at the Ivhite Carnation in Holmesville. Speir, Cecil Skinner and Jerry Collins. Following the program, those in costume revealed their identity and cookies, cider and apples were served. The cookies had been made by the residents and supervised by the girls in the craft room. The residents were entertained with a musical program on Family Night. Molly Cox, Mrs. Maitland Driver and Norman Speir played several in- strumental numbers. Mrs. Elsie Henderson accompanied at the piano for vocal solos by Nelson Lear and Cecil Skinner. Mrs. Helen Westbrook entertained with vocal solos and led a sing -a- long of favourites accompanied by Molly Cox. Darlene Hulley and Deanna Lyon pleased the audience with a step -dance duet. Following the program two new wheel -chairs were presented to the Home by the Clinton Legion. Russell Philips, poppy chairman, made the presentation, assisted by Zone Commander George Campbell, president John Deaves, and vice-president John Semple. Chester Archibald, ad- ministrator, accepted the gift on behalf of the Home and com- mended the Legion for the very useful project. Miss Mary Van Camp thanked the entertainers and the Legion on behalf of the residents. The Over 90 Club met Wed- nesday afternoon and were en- tertained with selections by the Huronview Orchestra, vocal solos by Mrs. Luella Cox, a sing- song and readings by Miss Jackson and Mrs. McGratton. The Walkerburn Club Volunteers assisted with the activities and served lunch. MR. AND MRS.RODGER FINKBEINER Bouquets of gladioli and yellow daisies decorated St. Peter's Church, St. Joseph's on October 8, at the marriage of Rodger Finkbeiner and Charlene Regier. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Regier, R. R. 2, Zurich and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. AIIan Finkbeiner, R. R. 2, Crediton. The double -ring ceremony was per- formed by Father Dennis. Music was provided by Eugene Dufour, Jim Ketzler, Tony Daniels and Gary Ducharme from St. Peter's Seminary, London. The maid of honour was Marilyn Regier and best mon was Gary Tieman. Guests were ushered by Allan Regier and Stephen Finkbeiner. Other attendants were Julie Rau, Audrey Regier, flower girl, Shannon Regier and ring -bearer, Scott Regier. After a honeymoon to Northern Ontario, the couple will reside in Zurich. Photo by Rudy Engel Golden Glimpses Citizens News, November 10, 1977 Page 5 Residents enjoy 'travels' Though we really shouldn't complain, these rainy dull days are even more depressing for our residents here than for those able to be out and around. On Monday evening travel films were enjoyed followed by refreshments. The regular monthly meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary was held on Tuesday evening under the convenership of Mrs. Andrew Blackwell. A skit "The Medicine Man" was acted out by Mrs. Newell Geiger, Mrs. Gertrude Fleischauer, Miss Verda Baechler and Mrs. Blackwell, The girls' choir of the Lutheran Church sang several numbers accompanied by Mrs. Audrey -Haberer at the piano. Mr. Douglas Klopp favoured with some piano solos. Contests were conducted by Mrs. Blackwell. Following the program a lunch was served after which the members of the Auxiliary ad- journed to the board room for the business part of their meeting. One of the most important business items to be dealt with was the bazaar and bake sale to be held on November 19 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The residents enjoy the excitement of the day and proceeds from this event are used for their comfort. We know everyone will do her part to at- tend this bazaar and try to make it a most successful day. This is the 11th anniversary of the Home. A number of our residents attended the movie at Maplewoods on Thursday. This Thursday afternoon and evening at 2:00'p.m. and 7:00 p.m. the movie "That's Entertainment" featuring an all-star cast will be shown. Everyone is invited to attend these movies so that as much benefit is derived from their use as possible. Residents were pleased to welcome all the trick and treaters on Hallowe'en night. Bingo was played Friday evening followed by refresh- ments. The Sunday evening chapel service was conducted by Rev. William Bennett of Bayfield Anglican Church.
