HomeMy WebLinkAboutZurich Citizens News, 1977-11-03, Page 12Golden Glimpses Many enjoy nature hikes The beautiful Indian Summer which we are still enjoying makes it possible for residents to sit out on the patio and take short walks and enjoy Nature and all the beauty of autumn by which we are surrounded. We welcome Mr. Eldon Ort- wein back from the hospital in much improved health. Films were enjoyed on Monday evening followed by refresh- ments. Now that we are back on standard time and the evenings are long, it would be a good time to visit with your families and friends here and perhaps enjoy some of the evening activities. Doctor Zhivago starring Julie Christie will b% the movie for Thursday afternoon and evening at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the Maplewoods recreation room. A welcome is extended to anyone who would enjoy seeing .this show. Some of our residents enjoyed the movie shown at Maplewoods last Thursday afternoon. We appreciate the materials brought in for use in the hobby shop, also the fruits and vegetables donated to the kit- chen. One of these days a large 8 1/2 lb. salmon caught in the Bayfield River and donated by Mr. John Corbett will be sizzling in the pan and served to the residents who, I am sure, will enjoy it. List winter plans for Stanley people by Mary Chessell -The recreation committee is sponsoring winter programs of .curling and basketball. Arnold Taylor is looking for couples from Stanley Township to curl at the Vanastra Curling Club this season. Instructions for new curlers will be provided for those who would like to get involved in this sport. Call Arnold at 482-9155 for more information. Basketball for all ages is going ahead at the Brucefield Huron Centennial School gym under the expert direction of Ken Reidy. A capacity crowd attended the fall dance at Hully Gully. Door prizes were won by Jack Coleman and Mary Lou (John- ston) Henry. Personals Miss Brenda Taylor, daughter of Morris and Connie Taylor, has passed her exams for her Registered Nurse's Diploma, after successfully completing her training in St. Joseph's Hospital, Hamilton. She has accepted a position in the same hospital, commencing her duties on November 7, and is being married on November 26. Connie says they have had a very busy summer at their motel at Kilworthy. Mrs. Laura Keys was home from hospital for a few days, and is staying with her son Clayton and family in Clinton at present. We sincerely hope she'll soon be in good health again. We'd like to extend a warm welcome from the community to Bill and Barb Crawford, formerly of RR 2, Clinton, who have purchased Flora Dowson's home. Bill works at Russ Archer's and Barb in the Board of Education office. They have a son Ryan, who will be a year old this month. Bingo was played on Friday evening followed by refresh- ments. Residents who were out visiting during the week were Mrs. Alma Southcott, Miss Mary Gelinas, Mr. Roy MacDonald, Mrs. Alice Thompson, Mrs. Adeline Kraft, Mrs. Willa Brock, Mrs. Ruby Hoggarth and Mrs. Jennetta Finnigan. The Sunday evening chapel service was conducted by Rev. Andrew Blackwell of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Zurich, Miss Viola Cadger presided at the organ.
