The Huron County Board of
Health and employees of the
county health unit accepted an 18 -
month agreement recently that
sets out wage increases for 1977
and 1978. The board reported to
county council Friday that the
agreement gives employees of
the health unit a six per cent
increase in salary effective July
1, 1977 and four per cent effective
January 1, 1978 subject to the
approval of the Anti -Inflation
Board.
Other terms listed in the
agreement were an increase in
the employer's share of the
-dental plan for employees from
half to two-thirds of the cost ef-
fective January 1, 1978. Mileage
rates for employees using their
own vehicles for health unit
business was set at 21 cents per
mile and employees required to
work overtime will be paid time
and a half or receive the
equivalent time and one-half off.
Public health inspectors
supplied with leased vehicles who
drive the vehicles to and from the
office are now required to
reimburse the county at the -rate
of 16 cents per mile. When the
present lease for vehicles expires
there will be no personal use of
the vehicles permitted under the
new lease.
The unit .employees also
receive pay for Heritage Day or
any other day proclaimed by the
federal or provincial govern-
ments as paid holidays.

Halloween evening last Friday
night, passed off very nicely and
somewhat quiet around town as
the next morning showed little
signs of the pranks committed.
The usual upturning of building
and removal of anything not
stationary, was not in evidence.
The Unique Farm Forum met
at the home of Mr, and Mrs. Carl
Oestreicher for the first
meeting of the winter season
with 30 members and visitors
present. Mr, Leonard Merner
was elected chairman for the
evening. A very lively discussion
followed.

"I am quite happy and pleased
with the youth of Zurich and
area," Corporal C.J. Mitchell,
head of the Exeter detachment
of the Ontario Provincial Police
told the Citizens News on
Wednesday following the quietest
Halloween in the history of the
community. Most of the store
windows in the downtown area of
Zurich even missed out of the
usual soaping.
The date for the official open-
ing and dedication of the Zurich
Area and Community Centre has
been set for Friday, December 1.
By this time the building com-
mittee feel quite sure the entire
project will be completed. The
opening event committee con-
sists of Herb Turkheim, chair-
man; Dr. W.B. Coxon, Gordon
Hess, all representing the coun-
cil; Mrs. Isabel Gascho,
representing the centennial com-
mittee, and. Donald L. O'Brien,
representing the Zurich Recrea-
tion Committee.
Miss Wanda Lawrence,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
William Lawrence, Zurich,
received her Bachelor of Arts
degree in sociology from the
Waterloo Lutheran University.
Thank God every morning
when you get up that you have
something to do that day which
must be done whether you like it
or not. Being required to work
and doing so to the best of your
ability will breed in you self-
control, diligence, contentment,
and a hundred other virtues
which the idle never know.
WATCH OUT! — The intrepid Citizens News photographer managed to survive the barrage of bean bags
that were aimed towards his way at the mother and daughter night held Thursday at St. Boniface Separate
school. The -children from kindergarten to grade three were showing off -some of their newly acquired
playtime skills to their mothers. Staff photo

Dear Sir,
I am writing to solicit help from
your readers on locating in-
formation on the history and
operation of an early ear-
thenware pottery established in
Zurich in 1869 by Christian Hess
and operating until about 1900.
I am working on the history of
potteries in Ontario and would
appreciate hearing from any of
your readers who would have any
recollections of the pottery when
it was operating, have any early
photographs of the business that I
could copy, pottery produced at
the works or any other details of
the business.
Very truly yours,
David Newlands
