HomeMy WebLinkAboutZurich Citizens News, 1977-10-27, Page 14Page 14 Citizens News, October 27, 1977 Bluebird spottings reported Bayfield summer resident killed by Miivena Erikson , Cathleen, daughter of_ Major William and Mary (Hayman) Archer of Levinworth, Kansas was killed in a motor accident in Lexington, Missouri on Sunday October 16. The 30 year old lifelong summer resident of Bayfield was to have been married on Saturday October 22. Her wish was to be cremated and her ashes strewn from an aeroplane over the wooded area at the family cottage in Bayfield and in Lake Huron. After a private service outdoors at the family cottage the ashes were blessed by Rev. William Bennett and the deceased wishes granted. The girl's fiance and her Father made three passes over the area and then out into Lake Huron where the bronze urn with the remaining ashes was dropped. The sympathy of friends and acquaintances is extended to her family. See bluebirds It's always nice to receive a note from Harvey MacDougall, chairman of the Bayfield and Area Bluebird Society telling us of the activities of the bluebirds and the following is one he handed us on the weekend: There are a few bluebirds around Bayfield yet but they will beleaving for the south any day now. Jan and Ted Gozzard had the pleasure recently of watching from their kitchen window, a family of seven stripping the .berries from their dogwood bush just outside the house. Others who have reported bluebirds around their Bayfield homes have been Margaret and Joe Mayman and Glen and Donelda Sturgeon. 4-H club meets Meeting two of the Bayfield 1 4H club was held in the. basement of St. Andrew's United Church on October 12 with 13 members present. Mrs. Ann Chapman demonstrated the proper way of cutting grapefruit and the dif- ferent utensils you would use. We then broke into four groups and prepared four delicious recipes. Mrs. Phoenix then explained about the different kinds of fruit. Meeting three of Bayfield 4H club was held in the basement of St. Andrew's United Church on October 19. Mrs. Phoenix demonstrated how to make raspberry Bavarian Cream and Kathy Leppington demonstrated Peach Layer Dessert. Mrs. Chapman discussed with us "Fruit the Year Round". We also discussed Achievement Day and the one minute speech we are to prepare for meeting five. We then got to taste the two delicious recipes which were made. Communion Rev. William Bennett of- ficiated at the 8 am Holy Com- munion and the 10 am Sung Mattins Sunday morning in Trinity Anglican Church. The Rector announced that the A.C.W. would meet at 2 pm Thursday (today) at the home of Mrs. Lucy Diehl and the mem- bers are asked to take along their October copy of Living Message. The Clergy of South Saugeen will be attending as Archdeaconry meeting in St. John's Church, Port Elgin Thursday (today) from 9:30 am to 4 pm at which time the Bishops will meet with the Clergy to discuss matters of importance to the Diocese. Sunday next at 10 am the Service of Sung Mattins will include the Litany. St. Andrew's Rev. Gardner, Goderich again occupied the pulpit in St. Andrew's United Church on Sunday morning and the topic for his sermon was "Love In Action". We regret that Rev. Gardner will not be with us next Sunday nor during the month of Nov. Rev. Reddoch is still con- valescing in Victoria Hospital in London and our best wishes go out to him. Mr. Howard May a Lay preacher from London will conduct the service next Sunday. Mr. May is a summer visitor to the Village. Persona Is Mr. David Dewar of Don Mills was a recent visitor with his sister, Mrs. Elva Matcalf. Friday evening, Mr. & Mrs. Bill Parker attended Commencement Exercises at G.A. Wheable Secondary School in London where their grandson Charles Parker received his Honours graduate diploma and is now attending University of Western Ontario. Saturday evening, the Parkers attended com- mencement exercises in Lord Dorchester Secondary School in Dorchester at which time their grandson Jack Parker won the Mona Morritt memorial award for the best all round student in year 4, graduating to year 5. Charles is the son of Bill and Mildred (Fraser) Parker of London and Jack's parents are Bob and Wilda Parker of Dor- chester. Congratulations are extended to both these young men. Mr. & Mrs. Bill Aberhardt of Sarnia were at their Village cottage on the weekend. Mr. & Mrs. James Sturgeon of Clinton visited in the Village on Sunday as did Mr. Fred Arkell off Goderich. Mr. & Mrs. Bob Cluff, Rob and Tara, London were at their cottage for the weekend. Mrs. Elva Metcalf, Mrs. Vina Parker, Mr. & Mrs. John Young and Miss Dorothy Cox attended a Superannuated Teachers of Ontario dinner meeting in Kirkton on Friday, October 21. The special interesting guest speaker was Dr. Elizabeth Bridgman who recently returned from Angola where she had been imprisoned by the government. Mrs. Allison Cox spent the day on Friday with her sister, Mrs. Nettie Sinclair in Seaforth. • MINOR BOWLING Registration for Minor Bowl- ing and a free game on Sat., Oct. 22nd beginning at 9:30 a.m. Registration fee $1.00. Score- keepers needed. EXETER BOWLING LANES l Mr. & Mrs. Pat Graham arid Mr. & Mrs. Ken Brandon returned home after spending two weeks in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Although the weather was damp and cool they reported a nice holiday and a needed change. They said the people are very pleasant and the area quiet. It is a summer resort area with a .normal population of 25,000 but in the summer tourist season it has an influx population of 125,000. Mrs. Jeanne Lindsay called us to ask to remind the Ever Young senior citizens of its regular meeting tonight (Thursday) in the Municipal building starting at 7:30 .
