Senior Citizens In the absence of the president, Charles Martene was chairinan for the October meeting of Dash- wood senior citizens. The new USCO flag was displayed. Martene gave a report on the rally at Brussels. The 1978 spring rally will be held in Exeter.Euchre was played with Mrs. Lloyd Rader winning high for the ladies' and'Mrs. Reinhold Miller, low, high man was Mrs, Pearl Miller and she also had the most lone hands. 4-H meeting Meeting five for club 2 Dash- wood 4-H was held October 19 at Mrs. Earl Keller's home. Mrs. Ray Rader discussed pastry making while Teresa Van Raay and Barbara Rader made pies. The girls read their fruit summary and the pies were served for lunch. Personals John Kellerman attended the dinner and reception at the Chateau Laurier, Ottawa, Monday, October 17 with Queen Elizabeth for young Canadians who have achieved excellence in the arts and sciences. Mr. & Mrs, N. A. Strub, Edmonton, Alberta, visited with the latter's grandparents Mr. & Mrs. Irvin Eckstein last week. Mr. & Mrs, Art Haugh, London, spent a` few days with Mrs. Cora Gaiser last week. Mrs. Paul Watson and Mrs. Jim Becker were hostesses at a Hensall - ti s Fruit, the day round, was the topic of discussion for the fourth meeting of Hensall 1 club, the Apple Dumpling Gang, at the home of Sharon Hoffman Tuesday. Fruit can be used as a source of Vitamin C at breakfast, or a salad along with dinner; alsp it can be used in a meat dish or for dessert. Raw fruit makes a very good snack for watching television. Due to the shortness of the meeting all cooking was left for the next week. The fifth meeting of the Apple Dumpling Gang, Hensall 1, was held at the home of Diane Ger- stenkorn with eight girls an- swering the roll call. Making pies was the topic of discussion. Sharon Hoffman made apple pie from scratch while Diane Gerstenkorn made an apple pie from a mix and canned pie filling. The girls tasted both pies . and made a comparison. Oriental Chicken and a fruit salad were also made and enjoyed by the girls. The Hensall,two 4H club met on Tuesday, at Joyce Pepper's house for their fifth meeting. They discussed pastry making and how to roll pastry. Then they talked about the different fillings for a two crust Pie and one crust pie. They made two applie pies - one was made from all purpose flour and the other from pastry flour. ,The last one was - the flakier. Members were presented with their fruit topics for Achievement Day. On Wednesday at 7 pm, the Hensall three 4H club, the Horri of Plenty, held their fifth meeting at R. K. The discussion for the night was about pastry. This included pastry rolling, a pastry recipe and a two crust and one crust pie. Betty Beer and Janet demonstrated two types of apple pie - one kind was with canned apples and a mix for the crust and the other was homemade. tessemaeords LARRY SAYS: baby shower for Mrs. Dave Rader at the former's home. Members of the slow pitch ball team (ladies) and friends were guests. Derek received many lovely gifts for which his mother thanked everyone. Robert Watson, son of Mr. & Mrs. Paul Watson is a patient at University hospital, London, where he will undergo surgery on his hip. Tag day for the South Huron hospital has now been completed and thanks to the generosity of Dashwood citizens the total was $96.75.
