HomeMy WebLinkAboutZurich Citizens News, 1977-10-27, Page 3Two district youths injured in collision A nasty accident occurred on Tuesday, October 18 on the McGregor farms, RR 2, Kippen, when cousins Robert, son of Mr. Hensall Hilda Payne Bertha McGregor Mr. & Mrs. Gerald Flynn visited last week with Mr. &Mrs. Don Avery and family in Deer- field Beach, Florida. Jack Corbett and Joe Flynn returned home after a week's holiday fishing at Kincardine. Mr. & Mrs. Bill Shaddick, Mark and Michelle, Kitchener spent the weekend visiting with the for- mer's mother Mrs. _ Pearl Shaddick. Mr. & Mrs. Roy Allison, Toronto visited during the past week with the latter's brother-in- law and sister Mr. & Mrs. Joe Flynn. Mr. & Mrs. Fred Parsons of London, visited during the past week with Mrs. Albert Alexander and also with Joe Ferguson. While here they visited Mrs. Bill Parsons in the Queensway Nursing Home. Retirement party A social hour was spent at the Queensway Nursing Home Thursday when the management and staff honoured Mrs. Jack Corbett on her retirement after 15 years service at the home. Mrs. Orval Jantzi read the address and Mrs. Robert Lavery presented Mrs. Corbett with an engraved silver tray. Mrs. Corbett began em- ployment with Mr. & Mrs. Orval Jones then Mr. & Mrs. Harry KlungeL and the present owners Hensall and Seatorth Homes Ltd. At the churches The service at Hensall United Church on Sunday, was con- ducted by Rev. Don Beck who took as his theme, "There's something missing". Speaking about church members he spoke on conversion as a change in the inner spirit. That change is missing in religion today. The choir, under the leadership of Mrs. John Turkheim.,' sang the anthem, "The Master hath called us". Next Sunday, the service will be on standard time at 11 am. Rev.''oung,Goderich conducted service in Carmel Presbyterian Church Sunday. There will be no service next Sunday October 30 owing to anniversary service in Caven ,Presbyterian Church, Exeter when Rev. John Boyne will be the guest minister. Sun- day, November 6 Rev. D.A. Codling, Toronto will be preaching for a call at Carmel Church at the hour of 10 am. Although it was dusk, neither boy had his lights on at the time and they did not see each other until it was too late. Steve received severe lacerations to his face, a broken arm and broken femur. Robert also had head injuries and a broken arm. It was estimated that it was about half -an -hour • before the boys were found and taken to Exeter Hospital from where they were transferred to University Hospital, London. Latest word is that both boys are progressing. Robert is doing well and is up in a wheelchair; Steve is improving steadily although still in serious condition.
