Mr. Taylor said the booklet is designed to meet the growing de- mand from the public for straightforward answers about the cost and potential of solar energy for residential use, and its possible applications in On- tario. Turn On The Sun has been designed for both the general public as well as those interested in more technical aspects of solar energy. "Homeowners will be par- ticularly interested in the section dealing with cost, "Mr. Taylor said. "While many people might look anxiously for alternatives because of rising fuel bills, they want to know all the facts. Their ultimate decision to select solar heating would obviously depend very much on relative costs. We have tried to show the kind of financial decisions they might face," Mr. Taylor emphasized that in. Ontario, 80 per cent of the energy we consume today comes from outside the province. "This makes us specially vulnerable to price changes and 'shortages. Consequently, there is a pressing need to ensure new supplies. of clean and useable energy for our future use," he said. Solar energy is one avenue be- ing explored as a possible, or at least partial, solution to our future energy needs. "The solar demonstration projects being carried out by both government and private citizens are hasten- ing the day when economical use of the sun's energy will be available to everyone," Mr. Taylor said. "Its potential must be developed," he said. "Its impor- tant to keep in mind that solar energy, even with rapid technological developments, is not likely to be a broadbased alternative to present methods of producing heat and electricity for quite some time." With the publication of Turn On The Sun the Ministry of Energy hopes to assist in the process of encouraging develop- ment of reasonably -priced, com- SENIOR MIXED BOWLING LEAGUE October 13, 1977 Teams Whip -poor -wills Hawkeyes Hi -Hopes Newcomers High Triple B.
