UCW hear John Kellerman
on handicappeds' lives
John Kellerman of Toronto, a
former Dashwood resident, who
. has cerebral palsy, showed the
film "Walk A Mile in. My Shoes",
at the Thursday evening meeting
of Zurich's United Church
Women. He was assisted by Jack
Gaiser of Dashwood. Special
guests were members of the
Bayfield and Goshen United
Churches.
The film showed how John
himself, a girl paralized in a car
accident, and a man with a
broken leg cope with their han-
dicaps. Getting on trains, buses
and aeroplanes pose great dif-
ficulty.
John has been trying to make
others aware that handicapped
people can live normal lives. He
has succeeded. During the
question -and -answer period
following the film he told thee
audience that he did a lot of
travelling. He has been to
England and California, as well
as many other places. He has also
been asked to dine with Queen
Elizabeth when she visits
Ottawa;;
The film has been shown on
television 25 times in two and one-
half years, and in places as far
away as Israel.
A quartet from the Mennonite
Church - Mrs. Clifford Gingerich,
Mrs. Glen Gascho, Mrs. Jim
Gingerich and Mary Lou Erb -
sang. several songs during the
evening, accompanied by Mrs.
Mahlon Martin at the piano.
Marie Pask read a poem, "The
Old-fashioned Thanksgiving".
During the business period, it
was announced that the Bible
Society would meet in the United
Church on November 6. This will
be a farewell meeting for Jack
Thompson, district secretary.
Volunteers have been asked to
canvass for "'the society. A
donation is to be given to the
Canadian National Institute for
the Blind.

LETTER TO EDITOR
Dear Madam.,
Once again I am approaching
the Hensel! area businesses in the
hope of finding financial support
for the town's minor hockey
program.
Last year we had good
response and it was through the•
generous donations of local
businesses and a lot of effort by
volunteers that we were able to
meet our financial obligations.
This year ice rental has in-
creased from $20 to $30 an hour,
and we will require $1,500 more
for ice time alone. We have a big
target this year, but one I am
sure we can reach with your help.
As secretary of the Hensall
Minor Athletic Association and
on behalf of all the boys involved
in the program, I would like to
thank everyone who contributed
last year. Your support this year
will be welcomed and ap-
preciated by all concerned.
Yours sincerely,
Bill Taylor,
Secretary,
Minor Athletic Association
