Columbus Day broadcast
planned for Oct. 9
A special Columbus Day ad-
dress will be heard over Radio
Station CKNX on October 9 1977
at 6:45 p.m. according to an
announcement made by Mr.
Phillip Durand, Grand Knight of
Father Stephen Eckert Knights
of Columbus in Seaforth.Durand
stated that the address would be
delivered by Virgil C. Descant,
Supreme Knight of the Knights of
Columbus. The executive head of

with bingo and treats Monday.
Mrs. C. Christie and Mrs. H.
Scane were in charge. Mrs.

residents downstairs with piano

In commenting on the
program, Durand said, "Four
hundred and eighty-five years
ago, Christopher Columbus
completed one of the most daring
and courageous exploratory sea
voyages recorded in the annals of
mankind - - the discovery of the
North American Continent.
More than one and a quarter
million men of the western
hemisphere, all Knights of
Columbus members, join
together this week in observing
this the anniversary of Colum-
bus' epic voyages'
In addition to the special radio
broadcast, other Columbus Day
activities are being planned. The
knights of Columbus will be
asked to attend a special service
at Saint Josephs Catholic Church
in Clinton at 8 p.m. Wednesday
October 12, 1977. We extend a
special invitation to other
denominations to join with the
Knights in a prayer for peace in
the world and unity in Canada.

Carmel Ladies plan bazaar
The Ladies' Aid of Carmel
Presbyterian Church met Mon-
day afternoon following the
W.M.S. meeting. The president
Mrs. Clarence Volland presided
and arrangements were made
for. the Bazaar being held
November 5.
. Mrs. Ed Corbett returned to
her ,employment at. the Bank of
Montreal following her vacation.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Westaway, Burlington were re-
cent visitors with Mr. and Mrs,
Lorne Chapman.
Mrs. Dorothy Parker, Noble
Grand of Amber Rebekah Lodge,
Mrs. Bertha MacGregor D.D.P.
and her installing staff and Mrs.
Glenn Bell were in Clinton Mon-
day evening installing the of-
ficers of Huronic Lodge. Tuesday
evening they visited Goderich
Rebekah Lodge and installed
their officers.
Mrs. Ross Corbett was hostess
recently for a shower for her
niece Brenda Taylor, Brantford
prior to her fall wedding. Donna
Taylor, Varna read the address
and little cousins Tina Driscoll,
Angela Radford and Jennifer
Pollock carried the gifts, after
which Brenda thanked everyone.
Brenda was also congratulated
for graduating from St. Joseph's
School of Nursing, Hamilton in
August. We wish her all the best
in her future roll as wife and
nurse.
W.M.S. Meet
The W.M.S. of Carmel
Presbyterian Church met Mon-
day afternoon The . president
Mrs. Harvey Hyde presided and
opened with Bible verses and
Reflections based on Psalms and
Ephesians. She gave a notation
on "Reflection on Thanksgiving
and led in prayer.
Mrs. Earl Campbell was in
charge of the Devotional and
opened with a poem on
"Leaves". Her topic was taken
from Thanksgiving Service from
the Glad Tidings "Things We Can
Be Thankful For."
The Presbyterian fall rally will
be held at Goderich October 12 at
1 p.m. The November meeting
will be held November 7 at 8 p.m.
with Mrs. Esther Wright in
charge.
