Mr. Monkman praised the success of the Zurich club since its founding in 1944; He talked about a visit to the Leader Dog School in Rochester, Michigan, It is hoped that five new clubs will be chartered in the district in 1977-78 and that membership will increase 10 percent. Pat Bedard was inducted into membership at the meeting. Past president Vince Doyle was presented with a 100 percent President Award by the district governor in recognition of his successful year in office. She taught for nine years at Stephen Central School; then had a year's leave of absence before_ coming to Zurich. Staff photo Lutheran women to host district assembly When St. Peter's Lutheran Church Women met Tuesday, September 13, Mrs. Gordon Hess, Mrs. Freda Moore, Mrs. Herb Turkheim . and Mrs. ' Earl Yungblut were in charge. The meeting took the form of a workathon. ' The Lutheran Church Women will host the district annual assembly in October. Name tags and decorations for the assembly were made. New songs to be sung that day were also practised. Mrs. John Turkheim presided for a short business meeting. Twenty-five members and the Pastor were present. An invitation to attend the Dashwood Lutheran Ladies Hobby and Craft night in November was accepted. Members were also invited to Letter to editor Dear Madam, As it has been the custom in past years, the members of the Zurich Lions Club will conduct the fund raising campaign for the CNIB in the area and this year this will be carried out during the first two weeks of October. The eyes have been called instruments of the devil and windows of the soul. Ninety percent of what we know comes through the eyes. In fact, the whole worldis designed for seeing:- This eeing:This same visible universe must also be understood and managed by thousands of blind and visually handicapped per- sons. Thanks to the generosity of sighted persons, and the services of the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, most of them succeed very well. They read by Braille, large print or talking book. They walk with a white cane or a dog guide. Some are employed often in low paying jobs because they do not see. Whatever they do, training, patience and a host of CNIB services make up in a small way for the loss of sight. So let us think for a moment about our own eyes, their im- portance in our lives, and write a cheque to check blindness. Campaign Convener, Claude Gelinas,,,, attend the W.L.A. Meeting in Waterloo. Mrs.. Turkheim reminded members that this meeting was to help .put them in the mood for the assembly, which will be held in the Church on. Wednesday, October 26. A social hour followed. Zurich 4-H will feature fruit The Zurich 4-11 Club has held its first meeting on the theme "Featuring Fruit". Members responded to the roll call by answering the question, "Why 'did you take this unit on Featuring Fruit?" Afterward, everyone said what fruit they had had that day. In the group work session, Darla Gingerich and Shannon Smale made Grape Spark, and Heather Sweeney and Sylvia Neeb made Date Mallow Chews. Club officers were elected at the end of the meeting. CORRECTION_ It was incorrectly stated in last week's paper that a sculpture had been presented to Dr. J. C. Goddard -by the Clinton Hospital Board.
