potato peelings in her backyard garden in•Zurich and, was rewarded
with a crop of outsize potatoes. She said she was going to make Ger-
man potato pancakes and have some applesauce with them.

bazaar November 5
The W.M:S of Carmel
Presbyterian Church com-
menced their fall meetings,
Monday evening with president
Mrs. Harvey Hyde in charge, and
opened the meeting with a
meditation entitled "Frien-
dliness".
Mrs. Glenn Bell and Mrs.
Bertha MacGregor were in
charge of the Devotional, which
opened with a message entitled
"Element of Surprise" and
prayer by Bertha MacGregor.
Mrs. Rochus Faber read the
Scripture, Mrs. Bell gave a most
interesting message on "The
Five Talents,"
Mrs. Edith Bell and Miss Sylvia
Bell favoured with two musical
numbers on the piano and guitar
entitled "I Really -Didn't Want to
Know" and "Just A Closer Walk
With Thee". Mrs. Hyde presided
over the business of the meeting.

Kirkman Auxiliary, September.
28 at 8 p.m.
The next meeting will be held
October 3rd at 2 p.m. The Ladies'
Aid meeting followed with Mrs._
Clarence Volland presiding. A
card of thanks was received from
Mrs. Troyer.
It was decided to hold a bazaar
Saturday, November 5. The
treasurer Mrs. Hyde gave the
financial report and Mrs. Volland
gave the card report.
. Dr. Fox of the University of
Western Ontario conducted
service in C.armel Presbyterian,
Sunday. Mrs. Robert Taylor .
presided at the organ leading in
the service of song.
Mr. & Mrs. Wilmer McGregor,
Sault Ste. Marie visited this week
with Mr. & Mrs. Edgar
McClinchey and also with the
former's mother Mrs. William
McGregor at Kippen.
Mr. & Mrs. Austin Wheeler of
Detroit spent a few days visiting
with Mr. & Mrs. Edgar Munn.

Judge Glenn Hays dies
H, Glenn Hays, a judge in.
Huron County since 1960, died
Sunday in St. Mary's Hospital,
Kitchener. He was 63.
Born and educated in Seaforth,
Hays became a lawyer in 1938
and was a member of the law
firm of McConnell and Hays in
Seaforth until 1956.
From 1948 until 1956, he also
served as parttime Crown at-
torney for Huron County and in
1956 was appointed to the post
full-time.
He became a magistrate and a
juvenile and family court judge
in 1960 and was appointed a
provincial court judge in 1969,
when the title was changed to
that from magistrate.
He is survived by his wife ,
Roberta, of 85 Essex St.
Goderich, and two daughters,
Sarah and Roberta,

The Ladies' Legion Auxiliary to
the Hensall Branch of the
Canadian opened their fall season
Tuesday evening with the
president Mrs. Beatrice Uyl
presiding.
Arrangements were made to
canvass for the Institute of the
Blind. The mystery prize was
won by Mrs. Wanda McClinchey;
the attendance prize by Mrs.
Martha Rooseboom; and the
guessing prize by Mrs. Iva Reid.
The Sports officer Mrs. Iva Reid
gave an outline of upcoming
sports and bowling tournaments.
All enjoyed a "Pot Luck" Lun-
cheon following the meeting. ,
