from western holiday

Dashwood W, I. resumed their
meetings for the fall with the first
one in charge of the Citizenship
and World Affairs group and Mrs.
Earl Keller, convener, The at-
tendance was cut due to a public
meeting the same night. Thirteen
members answered the roll call,
"What foreign country would you
like to visit and why?" Two
visitors were present.
Mrs. Ray Rader, president
dealt with the business. Mrs,
Eben Weigand gave a report of
the 80th. W. I. anniversary she
and Mrs. Howard Datars at-
tended in. July. She also thanked
the Institute for giving them this
splendid outing. Pictures she had
taken were passed around.
Volunteers are making pies for
YACMAR free of charge Sep-
tember 17. The London area
convention will be held at
Vanastra September 28 and 29. A
short course on W. I. procedure is
to be held at Hensall October 12.
Mrs. Earl Keller, chairlady for
the program, discussed the
Motto, " A man's feet should be
planted in his country, but his
eyes should survey the world."
Joan Finkbeiner, a 4-H girl
showed slides of a school trip she
had made to Belgium, Germany
and Holland. She answered
questions and showed souvenirs
she had brought back. It was very
interesting and educational.
Ladies Aid
Group 3 with Mrs. Louella
Tieman convener was in charge
of the September meeting of Zion
Lutheran Ladies Aid. Mrs. M.
Mellecke opened the meeting
with all singing along with a
cassette recording. She then read
Psalm 96 followed by prayer.
Pastor Mellecke took for the topic
the continuation of the Liturgy.
Mrs. Lorne Genttner,
president, dealt with the
business. There were 21 mem-
bers and a visitor in attendance.
Although there were no meetings
during July and August, reports
show a very busy summer for
groups 1 and 2 and the Altar
Guilds. The new Guild is Mrs.
Mayo Mellecke and Mrs.
Florence Keller.
Group 1 will be in charge of the
fowl supper in October for
members , husband or a friend.
Group 2 will be in charge of a
hobby and craft evening for
members of the congregation in
November.
Several cards of thanks and
donations were acknowledged.
Mrs. Esther Salmon had closing
devotions and the group served
lunch,
Rally Day
Rally Day was held Sunday at
Zion Lutheran church. Pupils
were promoted and little ones
began their first class. Teachers
and pupils along with the
superintendent sat in a body at
the church service and Pastor
Mellecke also installed the
teachers.
Personals
Mr. & Mrs, Earl Keller and
family have returned home from
a holiday to the West Coast. On
the way they visited with Mrs.
Keller's relatives in Yorkton,
Saskatchewan and Calgary,
Alberta.
The Senior citizens will meet
Monday, September 19. A
representative from Fettes Tours
will be present and discuss tours
available. Everyone is welcome
including young and old.
Mrs. Lorne Genttner attended
a miscellaneous shower in
London, Sunday for Larraine
Pastorius, fiancee of Don
Lockhart who is Mrs. Genttner's
nephew. The marriage takes
place in October.
Friends of Sheldon Gould will
be happy to know that he has
been released from the hospital
and is a house guest with Mr. and
Mrs, Bill Chandler while his wife
is confined to St. Joseph's
hospital.
Professor and Mrs.* Leonard
Burke, Guelph, spent a few days
last week with Mr. & Mrs. Vernon
Schatz.
Mrs, Vernon Schatz and her
two nieces, Garden City,
Michigan, were Sunday visitors
with Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Schatz.
Dashwood will be featured on
Morning Break on Channel 10
CFPL TV Tuesday, September
27, at 10 a.m.
Sandra Datars had the
misfortune to fracture her leg.
Mr. & Mrs, Howard Datars
attended Press Day for the
International Plowing Match in
Frontenac County near Kingston
last week.
