This young man is dedicated to helping the mentally and physically handicapped to become useful and happy citizens. He said that many of the people who work at ARC Industries have excellent production records, often doing tedious jobs much better than most employees in other industries. Visitors are surprised to see them skilfully using power machinery. To date they have had no accidents, probably because they have been carefully taught the correct way to do the job and because they concentrate on their work, with little or no daydreaming. A residence close to the factory would be a big asset to . em- ployees, as some ride long distances each day by bus. They are producing picnic tables (and are unable to keep up with the demand) and fish boxes, a few ceramics, string art, and so on, as well as doing contract jobs and envelope stuffing. Many of those are trained' at ARC Industries hope to get jobs in regular industry, but it is difficult ?r rna By MARY CHESSELL to place them at a time of nigh unemployment. The necessary amount of government funding is hard to get, especially for residences for small groups of people. Much help is needed from the people of Huron County. The Flowers of Hope campaign provides one opportunity to help those of all ages who need assistance in becoming productive members of society. Mr. Campbell said a number of applicants hope to be accepted for training at Dashwood. Space and money are the main problems. During the business meeting, it was decided to hold the annual smorgasbord supper October 5. The price will be the same as last year. Varna United Church an - niversary services are to be held September la, with Rev. Grant Mills, former president of London Conference as guest preacher. Other members present were Jean Rathwell, Shirley Hill, Mary Erb, Clarence • Rau, Howard Armstrong, John Paul Rau, Arnold Taylor and Harvey Hayter. Absent was Gerald Hayter. The corn roast, held earlier in August and considered very successful, will probably become an annual event. The committee is going to have a dusk -to -dawn light erected at the ball park parking lot, and storage shelves and cupboards built to hold each team's equipment. Also discussed for next year was fencing behind the players' benches to protect spectators, and also a practice diamond to be cleared north of the big diamond. Tickets are on sale now for the fall dance on October 15 at Hully Gully. Music will be by the Music Makers. Tickets cost $10 a couple. Lunch is included. If you want tickets, contact any one of the above-mentioned committee members.. This Sunday, September 11. at 2 p.m. the Stanley Township Recreation Committee is challenging the coaches of township ball teams to an exhibition game at the Varna ball park - a great way to wind our 1977 ball season.
