Bayfield
by 1'►Yillvena Erikson
At the annual meeting on
August 20, the president of the
Bayfield Ratepayers Association,
Joe Laudenback, urged
Bayfield's council to go slow, be
careful and wise in their
judgments, and make sure that
the building by-laws were
adhered to. He pleaded for a
slow -down in building, to prevent
the need for sewers and a water
system, as the mill rate would be
phenomenal and the cost of such
a program astronomical.
A great deal of discussion
ensued on the genuine concern
for the heritage of Main Street
and other areas in the village, A
petition is being circulated for
eventual presentation to the
village council. It reads, "In view
of its unique character, it is
imperative that certain actions
be undertaken to maintain the
Village of Bayfield as the type of
community we have all •enjoyed
through the years. It is apparent
that many changes have already
taken place and more are con-
templated. In view of -the
foregoing, the undersigned
recommend the following be
undertaken:
(1) The Local Architectural
Conservancy Advisory Com-
mittee (LACAC) which was
appointed approximately Sep-
tember 1976, and has never met,
be put into immediate operation
before any further changes be
made on Main Street or
elsewhere.
(2) The zoning by laws of the
Village be looked into and up-
dated if necessary,
(3) Members be added to the
LACAC representing the
Ratepayers' Association. Anyone
who desires to sign the above
petition should contact Mrs. Fred
Erb at 565-2425.
Annual membership is the
Association costs $2. and may be
paid to the treasurer, Jeanne
Lindsay. s

annual report, mentioned the
four subdivisions, Ducharme,
Fair Acres, Woods and Eugene
Street. He also mentioned the
equalized assessment being
prepared by the province, but
was uncertain whether it would
be implemented in 1978, as
previously planned.
The ratepayers meeting was
preceded by a presentation by
Constable R.W. Wilson, com-
munity services officer for Huron
County. He showed a film on the
