Bean festival happenings
Old -Fashioned Breakfast .
Members of the Zurich Minor
Athletic Association will be
serving a breakfast of pancakes
and homemade sausage near the
outdoor stage at Mill and Victoria
Streets from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. The
sausage is made at Isidore
Laporte's butcher shop; while the
pancakes are a specialty of the
athletic association.
Home Cooked Bean Dinners
From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., the
Bean Festival committee and its
volunteers will serve hot
homemade bean dinners, with
ham, cole slaw and bread and
butter for only $2. Shop for
dessert at the booths run by local--
church
ocalchurch groups. Their members
have baked over 1,000 pies, to eat
by the slice or buy to take home.
Coffee, soft drinks and milk will
also be available. Take-home
containers of beans will be sold,
too.

To all our old friends and the new ones we hope to
meet, we extend a courteous invitation to come in
and browse around. See our selections of needle -
points, quilt tops, crewel and embroidery work,
stamped mats and canvas by the `yard, ladies'
and men's ready-to-wear plus yard goods.

Horseshoe Pitching Contest
Registration for the Fred
Harburn Ontario Doubles Hor-
seshoe Championship takes place
from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Play then
starts on the ball diamond next to
the arena and continues till
winners are decided.
Frog Jumping Contest
This event, sponsored by Dr. C.
Wallace, will be held in the af-
ternoon on the service station lot
at the corner of Victoria Street
and highway 84. Listen in the
morning for an announcement of
the time.
Bean Queen Contest
Preliminaries for the Bean
Queen title will begin at 3 p.m. on
the outdoor stage at Mill and
Victoria Streets, not at 5:30 p.m.
as shown in the brochure. The
finals start about 4.30 p.m. Girls
will wear shorts and tops for their
first interviews, evening dresses
for their second. Two runners-up
will be chosen.
Crafts, Baking and Other Things
Most of the concessions are run
by local groups, selling home
baking, crafts, canned goods, or
special products. The Huron
County Museum is sending a
display, relating to regional
history, while the local con-
servation authority will have one
relating to land use.
Midway
There will be an all -day Mid-
way at the corner of Victoria
Street and highway 84, with lots
to amuse the kids and maybe the
adults, too.
Stage Show
From 11 a.m. to noon the No
Strings Attached Company will
present a hand puppet show. In
the afternoon Bob Heywood 'of
Centralia is host of a variety
program, in which boys and girls
may take part.
Bean Festival Dance
From 9 p.m. till 1 a.m. there
will be a dance in the arena,
sponsored by the Zurich Minor
Athletic 'Association. Music will
be provided by the Bluewater
Playboys and the Desjardines
Orchestra.
