They won their first game, played at noon with McCloud Roofing of Kit- chener, 3-2. Clifford Gingerich pitched a fine game and also hit a home -run. Second game of the day for the Buckeyes was played at 6 p.m. with Elmira. Zurich lost this game 3-0 and was eliminated from the tournament. This Saturday morning at 8 a,m. the Buckeyes start off the fastball tournament in Zurich playing against Lieury. Zurich Comets slow -pitch baseball team went down to defeat in Kincardine last weekend, losing both games played there. This weekend they play Cargill, against whom they already have a two -game lead. Last weekend the Stanley Stars had a hard time with the Bayfield Babes. The Stars lost 44-5. The next game is at Bayfield Sunday against the Good Times. Park group r ledge $1,000 One thousand dollars has been pledged to the Bayfield Arena building fund by the villages' Pioneer Park Association. Half will be given this year, the rest in 1978, it was decided at their recent annual meeting. Sod erosion of the park's lakeside bank had continued, it was noted. Little more can be done to prevent this. Five groynes had already been built out into the lake by the association and neighbouring property owners in the hope of building up sand banks and beach. Another groyne was added this year at a cost of $720. A new member appointed to the board of directors was Armand Manness. Len Apedaile and Harry Baker were re -appointed to three year terms. Other directors named were Mrs. Gwen Pemberton, Mrs. Olwen Chap- man, John Cook, Brigadier Morgan Smith, Professor Walter Thompson and Mrs. Marilyn Gregory. Professor Thompson was appointed Chairman. The first round of playoffs started just before we went to press. The games schedule is arranged with first team playing fourth; second, fifth; and third, sixth. It is a best -of -three series, with winning teams advancing for the grand championship and losers playing for consolation prizes. District Obituaries JAMES FREDERICK LEARN On Monday, August 8, 1977, a funeral service was held at the Hopper -Hockey Funeral Home in Exeter for James Frederick Learn, 19 -year-old son of Max and Gloria Learn, RR 3, Exeter. He was the brother of Mrs. Jerry (Deborah) Dillon of Seaforth and Beverly Max Learn Jr., RR 3, Exeter. He is survived also by his grandparents, Lois and Lee Learn of Exeter, and Mrs. Frieda Keller of Dashwood; and by a nephew Brian Dillon of Seaforth. Burial was in Exeter cemetery. HESTER LOUISA REGIER On Saturday, August 13, a funeral mass was said at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, St. Joseph, for Hester Louisa Regier, who died last Wednesday in Cottage Hospital, Detroit, Michigan. She was 62 years old. She was the former Hester Louisa Mullin. She is survived by her husband, Anthony Theodore Regier; by a son, Tony, of Detroit; and by two daughters, Mrs. David (Marilyn) Durand, RR 3, Bayfield, and Mrs. Donald (Sharon) Baker, RR 2, Dashwood; a brother, Larry Wayne of Great Falls, Montana; and a sister, Mrs. James (Dorothy) Bathgate of St. Clair Shores, Detroit. There are seven grandchildren. Mrs. Regier was Predeceased by her parents, Mr. Mrs. Regier was predeceased by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Mullin. Friends and relatives were received at the Westlake Funeral Home, Zurich. Pall -bearers were Joe Regier, Karl Regier, Don Regier, Jerome Denomme, Gerald Regier and Jerry Ducharme.
