HomeMy WebLinkAboutZurich Citizens News, 1977-06-29, Page 11BLUE WATER REST HOME Golden Glimpses June 19 to 25 was set aside as Senior Citizen's week at which time most places set up programs to recognize the seniors. As a special tribute, the Blue Water Rest Home sponsored a chartered bus for a trip to the Lion Safari atRockton.All of our residents who were interested and able to make the trip in- cluding Miss Marie Gelinas who herisin 1 00thear alongwith Y senior citizens from the Maplewoods Apartments and from the Village of Zurich and a few staff members made up the bus load. The bus left the Home about 9:30 a.m. and arrived in Rockton around noon at which time all enjoyed a picnic lunch before beginning the tour of the Safari. Many animals were seen in- cluding Ontario's first• baby giraffe born June 2, 1977 at Rockton.Following the tour of the Safari everyone had the op- portunity to shop in the souvenir shops. The trip home included a visit to the Rockway flower gardens in Kitchener. One of the highlights of the trip was the steak dinner served at the Ponderosa Steak House in Stratford. Afterth e dinner a short tour of the Festival grounds was enjoyed. According to the various comments, all enjoyed this outing. We are pleased to welcome Mr. Frederick Weiberg formerly of Dashwood as a new resident. Photo by McKinley Special programs for Huronview residents The special programs for Senior Citizens Week began Sun- day, June 19 at Huronview with a Church Service in the Auditorium. Rev. J. Ure Stewart of Seaforth was the guest speaker and Mrs. Doris McKinley, organist and choir leader of Ontario Street United Church, Clinton, accompanied the men's quartette — Stan Johns," George Turner, Chester Archibald and John Lavis — and the Junior choir led by Mrs. Turner. Blyth and Bayfield seniors visited the Home on Monday and entertained in the afternoon with a `variety program. Ad- ministrator Chester Archibald welcomed the guests and of- ficially opened the week's ac- tivities. Mr. Harry Baker was emcee for the program which in- cluded vocal solos by Mrs. Whit - tick and Mrs. McClinchey, a violin solo by Dalton Smith, and a sing -a -long led by Mrs. Mary Nediger, accompanied by Mrs. Myrtle Parker. The Goderich Township volunteers and musicians assisted with the ac- tivities. Brussels and Clinton seniors were guests Tuesday and presented a variety program with Mr. Ed Martin of the Brussels Club as emcee. Mrs. Edna Baker, Mrs. Van Fleet, George Turner and Frank Hooper entertained with vocal solos, Elmer Trick a vocal solo, Ken Fleet violin solos, readings by Mrs. Ida Livingston and Mrs. Edna Adams, and the Trillium Club duet. Hensall The h s and Exeter Clubs b visited the Home Wednesday and the presidents, Mrs. Rundle and Percy Campbell, shared the emcee duties for the afternoon's program. The Hensall quartette included Mrs. Dorothy Mickle, Mrs. Pearl Taylor, Mrs. Myrtle Sherritt and Mrs. Dorothy Brintnell. There were readings by Mrs. Windover and Mrs. Rose Har,ris, mouth organ solos by Henry Adkins, a piano duet by Mrs. Dorothy Mickle and Mrs. Vera Ross. Entertaining for Exeter were Mrs.Bullock, Mrs. Finkbeiner, Mrs. Isles, Mrs. Merkley, Mrs.,Hoffman and Ken Johns. • The Dashwood and Grand Bend seniors sponsored a bingo at the Home Thursday afternoon and as well as providing the prizes for the games a prize was given to the eldest lady playing, Mrs. Scott, 97, and the eldest gentleman, Tom Herman, 93. To date about 300 seniors have visited the Home and we are looking forward to visitors from Goderich, Friday and Seaforth, Saturday. I am sure everyone ap- preciates the extra effort made by the kitchen staff to provide the meals and the lemonade in the afternoons. We also ap- preciate the help of the Huron - view orchestra who helped with the music on several occasions during the week. A person shouldn't talk when his mouth is full — or his head is empty. and friends here. Before we know it, Bean Fesitval time will be here. No doubt while you are here visiting you will notice the beautiful appliqued quilt on display. Tickets are on sale here for the draw on Bean Festival day. There will be a meeting of the Auxiliary's Bean Festival planning committee on Tuesday, July 5 at 7:00 p.m. It is hoped that all members of the committee as well as other interested members will attend the meeting. Bingo was played on Friday evening followed by refresh- ments. The Sunday evening chapel service was conducted by Rev.. Lloyd Kalbfleisch, retired Lutheran Minister of . Zurich. Mrs. Kalbfleisch presided at the organ during the service.
