HomeMy WebLinkAboutZurich Citizens News, 1977-06-15, Page 5BLUE WATER REST HOME Golden Glimpses Although Sunday was rather cloudy and cool,I am sure anyone who had any special plans would be able to carry them through, On Tuesday afternoon the Ladies Auxiliary of the Home held their regular monthly meeting in the form of a.picnic. The business part of the meeting was held in the Board Room followed by a program in the dining room. Miss Verda Baechler welcomed the Residents and the guests from Maplewoods Apartments as well as other visitors. Mrs. Susan Snider had relatives from California who enjoyed the picnic very much. The natnes of the residents were put in a hat and drawn and the queen for a day was Mrs. Myrtle Woodford, the king being Mr. Lambert Witmer. Both were •crowned and presented with gifts. There. were several relay races. A skit "railroad tracks" was presented. Mrs. Theresa Stark played the part of station agent and Mrs. Amne Flaxbard and Gertrude Fleischauer played the part of Ma and Pa. A humorous exercise "Aunt Matilda Came" was acted out by several ladies. The committee in charge of the supper were Mrs. Irene Brisson, Theresa Stark, Anne Flaxbard, Thelma Thiel and Miss Verda Baechler. Mrs. Gertrude Fleischauer presided at the piano while the meal was being served. • Needless to say, the residents enjoyed the large variety of delicious foods which are provided by the Auxiliary at these functions. On Wednesday evening, the ladies of the Dashwood Lutheran Church sponsored the June birth- day party. The musical program was very much enjoyed by the residents. Residents having birthdays during the month of June are Mrs. Fern Bowman, Mrs. Ruby Hoggarth, Mrs. Ethel Munn, Mrs. Nancy Sch- wartzentruber, Mrs. Mary Sturley and Mr. James McAllister. Birthday gifts were presented, courtesy of the Ladies Auxiliary. A delightful lunch was served '° which included home made ice cream, fresh strawberries and birthday cake. Bingo was played on Friday evening followed by refresh- ments. Residents enjoying outings with their families during the week were Mrs. Willa Brock, Mrs: Ruby Hoggarth, Mrs. Anne Oligny, Mr. Roy MacDonald, Mrs. Alice Thompson, Mrs. Fern Bowman, Mrs. Mabel Gossman, Miss Mary Gelinas, Miss Susan Hartman and Mrs. Alma South- cott. The Sunday evening chapel service was conducted_ by Mrs. Eric Luther of the Salvation Army. Mr. Eric Luther presided at the organ during the service and accompanied Mrs. Luther and Mrs. Brunsdon who sang a duet. Queensway Happenings Visitors at Queensway Nursing Home last week were Mervyn and Irene Dunn, Amy and Greta Lammie, Jean Triebner with Vera Lammie. Mr. & Mrs. E. H. Denroach, Mr. & Mrs. Orby Kestle and Leslie Mitchell with Louise Mitchell. Mrs. Louise Reid, Mr. & Mrs. W. E. Parker visited Clara Featherston. Mr. & Mrs. Sid Pullman, London visited Bernice Lavery. Graham and Marjorie Arthur visited Mrs. Sarah Arthur. Howard Johns visited his mother Mabel Johns. Shirley Prouty visited Lynn Latimer, Isobel Sproat, Vera Lammie and Bernice Howes. Cecil and Betty Smith visited Lynn Latimer and several residents. Rev. George Anderson con- ducted the church service with Louise Mitchell accompanying. The Christian Reformed Church ladies of Exeter took the residents to Riverview Park for car rides, games and treats on Monday. OPEN TO 9 P.M. FRIDAY 262-2501 Citizens News, June 15, 1977 Pa 5 Womens Club at Huronview Mrs. Shirley Luther led the Sunday evening song Service sponsored by the Christian Women's Club. Mr. Luther ac- companied at the organ for the hymns and for a vocal duet number by Elsie Henderson. The weather was perfect on Monday evening for the annual Spring drive, sponsored by the Exeter United Church. The cars arrived at the Home at 6:30 and all of the residents who were able, had a lovely two hour drive to several areas in the county. This event is one of the highlights of the year at the Home and many thanks to those who provided cars and arranged the drive. The Central Huron Secondary School Band played for a concert on the front lawn on family night. Miss Story is director of the thirty -piece band and although the evening was cool, a great many of the residents were able to enjoy the concert from the rooms on the west side of the building and the front entrance. Three new members were welcomed to the over 90 Club at the June meeting, Mrs. Grasby, Mrs. Fremlin and Mrs. Foran, Twenty-six members attended Zurich Personal Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd O'Brien, Mr. & Mrs. Leroy O'Brien, Mr. & Mrs, Harvey Clausius and the nieces and nephews and their families all attended the United Church service on Sunday morning to celebrate their aunt, Miss Olive O'Brien's 80th bir- thday. Following service a family dinner was held at the Hay Township Hall in Zurich. the meeting, were entertained with music by the Huronview Orchestra, and sing -a -long led by Nelson Lear and Betty Rogers.
