Mr. Richard McCullough of
Burr and Miss Margaret Deaves
of Mitchell visited with the for-
mer's grandmother, Mrs. Robert
Middleton on Sunday.
Mrs. Rena Mitchell, Paris
spent a few days visiting with
Mrs. William Petty.
Constable Phillip Nelson, Mrs.
Nelson and Christopher of Sarnia
spent the weekend with Mrs.
Nelson's parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Gordon Troyer.
Mrs. Harold Elder who was a
patient in South Huron Hospital
was able to return to her home.
Mrs. Harry Horton who was
receiving treatment in South
Huron Hospital, Exeter returned
to her home Friday.
Mr. & Mrs. Charles Goodman
of Detroit visited with Mr. &
Mrs. Jack Corbett last week,
Mr. & Mrs. Harold Parker are
visiting with Constable Doug
Wein, Mrs, Wein and David who
have taken up residence in Ot-
tawa.
Carmel Presbyterian Church
Larry Gillians of Toronto was
the guest speaker at Carmel
Presbyterian Church, Sunday
representing the Alcohol and
Drug Concern Program. His ad-
dress was on "The Chemical
Age". Miss Brenda , Pepper
presided at the organ. Rev. Doug
Fox of Huron College will con-
duct service next Sabbath when
Baptism service will be held.
Sunday June 12 the Sacrament
of Communion will be dispensed.
The WMS of the church are
holding their annual birthday
party, June 6 at 8 p.m. when Rev.
and Mrs. Pierce of Crediton will
be guest speakers.
Surprised on anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Parker
were pleasantly surprised on the
occasion of their 45th wedding
anniversary when the members
of their family surprised them at
their home presenting them with
many useful gifts and a social
time was enjoyed by all.
Celebrate 25th anniversary
A large number of relatives,
neighbours and friends gathered
at the Zurich Community centre
on Saturday in honour of Mr. and
Mrs. Howard Adkins, 25th wed-
ding anniversary. The evening
was spent in dancing to music by
the Bluewater Playboys. The
couple received many gifts and a
purse of money. Refreshments
were served, also the anniver-
sary cake. Mr. and Mrs. Adkins
made a fitting reply, expressing
sincere thanks to everyone.
New church windows
New stained-glass windows are
being installed in Hensall United
Church. The two front windows
were installed last year in the
south side of the church and now
the rerriaining windows, in the
east and west sides are being
added. It is hoped that many cold
draughts will be eliminated and
that they will preserve the beauty
of an already beautiful church.
Individual donations and joint
efforts of the congregation have
raised the necessary funds.
Bedtime Beauties
The seventh meeting of the
Bedtime Beauties was held on
Tuesday, May 24 and was opened
with the 4H Pledge. Roll Call was,
"Something I have learned in this
project. During the business
period, the minutes were read
and a Fashion Show to be given at
the United Church on June 7 was
arranged. The exhibit for
Achievement Day was discussed.
Home assignment is to com-
plete record books.

Beef Barbecue
A very successful Beef Bar-
becue was held at the Hensall
United Church on Wednesday,
May 25. Three sittings were
served with approximately two
hundred at a sitting and many
compliments were received
about the meal. Many thanks to
all who helped .in any way to
make it such a success.
Women's Institute '
The Hensall Women's Institute
will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Wed-
nesday, June 8, at the Legion Hall
and move to the Hensall Bean Pot
at 7:30 p.m. for supper. Members
please take note of the change in
time for this meeting.
United Church
Pentecost Sunday was ob-
served at the Hensall United
Church during the service con-
ducted by Rev. Don Beck with
Mrs. John Turkheim at the
organ. The choir sang the an-
them, "0 Mighty God, when I
behold the Wonder" and the
sermon was entitled, "It is to
your advantage" when Rev. Beck
pointed out that the coming of the
Holy Spirit is for all, makes all
things possible, is the spirit of
unity and equity and is in all ways
to our advantage.
Next Sunday, Holy Communion
will be observed at the morning.
service.
Blacktop complete
The second layer of blacktop
has now been applied to all the
roads in Hensall, completing the
sewage work undertaken last
summer.

Gradate receives award
At the Spring Convocation,
University of Guelph, held,
Friday May 27, 1977, Donald
James Noakes, son of Mr. & Mrs.
Leonard Noakes, Hensall,
received his Honours Bachelor of
Science in Engineering degree.
Donald was awarded the
Association of Professional
Engineers Medal and the 0.A.C.
Alumni Graduation Award.
The Association of Professional
Engineers Medal is a gold medal
and books of approximately $50.
dollars value, which are awarded
to a graduate of an accredited
engineering course; who takes
honours, obtains the highest
weighted average percentage in
the practical work and written
examinations of the year.
The O.A.C. Alumni Foundation
offers annually in the Bachelor of
Science Engineering program,
an award of $200. dollars and a
gold medal to a graduating
student who has maintained a
minimum of a B standing in all
semesters while participating in
and contributing to an extra-
curricular program on campus.
Donald was also recently
awarded a National Research
Council of Canada Post -graduate
Scholarship worth $6,000. He will
hold tenure of this scholarship in
the Department of Systems
Design Engineering at the
University of Waterloo in Sep-
tember of this year. He will be
working toward a Master of
Applied Science Degree in
Systems Design Engineering
