Bake Sale The ladies of StAndrewsUnited Church are asked to have their baked goods to Dawna Westlake's at 10 a.m. Saturday morning for arranging and pricing for their bake sale at 11 a.m. to be held on Dawna's lawn. The 3m's On Thursday, May 26 at 8:30. p.m., the 3 M's (Mr. Mrs. and Miss) will meet in St. Andrews Church basement and hear Mr. Gregg director of Training at the Bluewater Centre as guest speaker. Bayfield Council Village Council met in regular session Monday evening and decided to add more signs on Main Street designating angle parking only along the whole of Main Street. It was reported that trucks are left with engines running parked,parallel for considerable' lengths of time disturbing residents along Main Street. It was learned that the regular garbage pick-up will be on Tuesday morning, May 24 and a ' special trash pick-up of anything other than regular garbage will be held on Tuesday afternoon. This special pick up of trash is to be bundled or tied or in such a manner so it will be able to be handled by the collector. If it is not all collected on Tuesday afternoon, the remainder will be collected the following day. Notification of septic tank approval was received from the Huron County Health Unit in Goderich for William Mclllwain and Dan May. A letter from the Huron County Board of Education was received extending an invitation to the Reeve, chairman of Finance or Clerk to attend a meeting in Clinton where they will attempt to explain the reasons for the increased costs in education. Council voted to send a letter of thanks to Chris Kiar, Ontario Land Surveyor of Goderich for his gift of a detailed map of Plan 5 of the Village of Bayfield, and passed a resolution to apply for an additional three year lease to the Government for the Bayfield Marina, learned that the gravel had been spread on the streets, that the paving will be completed by the weekend and that the calcium will be spread on the Village streets as soon as it arrives, and appointed Doug Sinnamon as the Village representative on the Fire Area Board. The Board will consist of a member from Stanley Township; one member from the Township of Goderich, one from the Fire Association and the Reeve of Bayfield as the Chairman; and decided to hold the next regular council meeting on Monday, June 6. Arthritis jars Dawna Westlake has informed us that the Arthritis jars are now in the business establishments in the Village and will remain until the end of September. She asks that you drop some of your coins in to aid in the research of this crippling disease. Lake Rescue On Wednesday evening, May 11, the Coast Guard in Sarnia received an S.O.S. message via a C.B. radio of a Cabin Cruiser in distress about one and one-half hours due west off Bayfield. The Coast Guard in turn notified the Goderich Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police who in turn contacted Donald R. McLeod of Bayfield. Donald Captain of the fishing tug "F'erroclad" along with two volunteer crewmen,, George Chaussee and Doug Telford, set out across Lake Huron to rescue the distressed craft. More than four hours later (around mid- night) they had towed the "Dream Weaver", a cabin cruiser owned by Mr. Hoskins of Toronto, safely into port, He and his passenger boarded the Ferroclad to get warm after securing a tow line to the cabin cruiser.
