Comrnittee lets tenders
for Hensall arena
The building committee in
charge of the Hensall arena
decided to let tenders at their
meeting last week, despite the
fact a few of the specifications of
the proposed building are not
final.
Deadline for the tenders will be
May 31 said Hensall reeve Harold
Knight, also Chairman of the
building committee. The plans
for the proposed arena are on
display in the town hall for the
perGsal of anyone interested,
The fund-raising canvass has
not started yet but a Kinsmen
spokesman said the canvass will
begin very soon. The Kinsmen
are canvassing the actual village
ratepayers with the fund-raising
cofnmittee headed by Eric
Luther canvassing the
surrounding areas.
The estimated cost of the new
arena is $600,000 with $150,000 of
that to be raised through public
fund raising.
No tender has been accepted by
council for the demolition of the
old arena. The deadline to send
tenders in on the demolition
was May 5. The council has in-
dicated they wish to keep the old
arena open until around July 16 at
least.

Wintario funds
An arena in Huron County is
among those receiving special
Wintario help to correct unsafe
conditions.
Culture and Recreation
Minister Robert Welch said a
grant up to $70,000 is to go to the
Seaforth Arena and Community
Hall. It is among five grants
announced in Huron County
recently which have been ap-
proved from the proceeds of the
Ontario Lottery. The grants total
$75,166 with amounts ranging
from $70,000 to $110.
The Seaforth Arena and
Community Hall grant will be
used to assist in the costs of
renovations to the arena which
are required by the Ministry of
Labour for public safety.
Mr. Welch said today's grants.
are part of the ongoing Share
Wintario program for the support
of cultural and recreational
facilities.
To date in 1977, the ministry
has allotted $25.9 million to more
than 1,785 groups and projects
across the province.
A grant of $2,056 is to be made
to the Townshbip of Howick to
assist in the costs of im-
provements to the local arena
including the installation of a
dehumidifier and the con-
struction of an addition.
The Exeter Saddle Club is to
receive a grant up to $1,500
towards the costs of constructing
an illuminated outdoor show ring.
A grant of $1,500 is to be made
to the Goderich Oldtimers
Hockey Club to defray the costs
of transportation to attend an
invitational oldtimers hockey
tournament in Zurich, Swit-
zerland.
' The Seaforth Industrial Hockey
League will receive a grant of
$110 to assist in the purchase of
goal pads.

Stable fair no longer open
Theatre goers will no longer be
able to order dinner at Stable
Fair while attending plays at the
Huron Country Playhouse. The
Stable Fair area will be open for
chatting, but there will not be
meals available says Playhouse
Director James Murphey.
The Grainery will be geared to
crafts this year and the Boutique
will again be going full tilt to
allow those interested to spend
their intermissions browsing or
purchasing the unique fare
available.
There have also been several
revisions to the Playhouse line-up
of plays, but the list is now final
says Mr. Murphy.
ANY WEDNESDAY, the
Broadway and Hollywood Hit
replaces THE OWL AND THE
PUSSY CAT in the seasons line-
up and BERLIN TO BROADWAY
is another new addition. .
BERLIN TO BROADWAY is
the season's musical revue and is
a guest production from Mon-
treal's Phoenix Theatre. It spans
20 turbulent years, the 30's in
Berlin and Paris through the
post-war 40's in America.
Tuesday night openings are
another new feature at the
Playhouse this year. Per-
formances will be Tuesday
through Saturday at 8.30 p.m.
with afternoon matinees on
Wednesday and Saturday at 2.30
p.m. The ticket office is now open
9 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays.
The season's plays and dates
