Park plans near completion
The proposed site plan for the
Zurich park development was
discussed at the regular meeting
of the Recreation, Parks and
Community Centre Board
(RPCC),
Attending the meeting besides
board members was Peter
Rumball, planner for the Con-
servation Authority and Vincent
Doyle and Herb Bierling
representing the Agriculture
Society.
From the input received by Mr.
Rumball at the meeting a
detailed plan will be presented to
the Agriculture Society for their
approval since some of the
proposals involve their property.
Following the perusal of the
Agriculture Society, definite
agreements will be reached on
the final park proposals which
will then be presented to the
village council for their con,
sideration.
The interior of the arena is in
for a facelift. The RPCC board
has decided to panel the lower
eight feet of the auditorium walls
with the balance of the walls to be
painted with trim installed to
create a Bavarian decor.
The Board accepted the tender
of Dave Morrissey Paints Ltd. in.
the amount of $720 to spray paint
the interior metal walls of the
arena and the area around the
windows of the balcony.
The secretary was instructed to
forward a letter of appreciation
to C.G, Farm Supply Ltd. for the
free use of their tractor on the ice
making machine for the winter
season.
ARENA NOT TOO CROWDED — The skating surface of the arena was not too crowded Saturday during
the Zurich roll-a-thon as many of the participants took time out to take a rest or grab a bite to eat to get
them through their ten hour stint on skates. Photo by McKinley

Church news
"Prayer" was the theme taken
by Mrs. Howard Scane for the
devotional at the May meeting of
Unit 1 held in the Fellowship Hall
on Thursday afternoon, May 12.
She opened the meeting with
prayer, followed by all singing
the hymn, "My Faith looks up to
Thee" and scripture reading
from Matthew 6, verses 5-15. Her
talk was taken from articles
written by Dr. McClure and Dr.
Wilbur K. Howard and Rev.
Davidson. Prayer is a way of
learning God's will; we are
changed by prayer; when
praying, you are ,dealing with a
power in the universe which is
beyond your control. Options are

considered as secondary
workers.
"I find that scary, I don't want
that type of government," she
said.
Guest speaker at the meeting,
London Centre NDP candidate
Stuart Ross spoke to the group on
health care and the loss of
agricultural land.
He noted that Ontario Health
Minister Frank Miller announced
the hospital and health cutbacks
on December 19, 1975. This was
only one day after. the provincial
parliament rose for its Christmas
recess. Ross felt that this was
done to avoid a public forum and
any political pressure on the
issue.
Ross also noted the con-
tradictions in Miller's proposals.
He explained that while Miller
was announcing his policies, his
officials from the board of health
were negotiating in good faith
with the board of directors at the
Paris Hospital for improvements
and changes.
Ross also spoke on another
major NDP concern, the loss of
prime farmland in Ontario. He
said that southern Ontario has
lost some 500,000 acres of
agricultural land in the past five
years.
He also explained that the
number of active farms has
decreased by about seven
percent in the past five years.
He said that this has happened
because the government has
mismanaged our province and
mismanaged our resourses.
"We have been led to believe
that we have a good government
but it is arbitrary and it is
wasteful," he added.
Weary will be running against
Jack Riddell, the Liberal can-
didate for the riding and Anson
McKinley for the Conservatives.
She was an unsuccessful
candidate for the NDP in three
previous federal elections. Weary
is the president of the riding
association and teaches at
Central Huron Secondary School
in Clinton.
