I hope that mothers
everywhere were warmly
received on Mother's Day on
Sunday. Unlike the weather with
its icy blast whipping up dust
storms and in some cases snow,
mothers here were well taken
care of by their families as is
indicated by the beautiful plants
and gifts displayed on their
dressers.
Last Monday evening, the last
films for the summer months
were shown. The long day light
hours hampers the clearness of
the films as well as the interest
being shown by the residents. The
film program will be resumed in
the fall which always creates new
interest on the' long winter
evenings.
I wish to thank Mrs. Mary
Ellen Gingerich for taking over
the column for a few weeks while
I was on sick leave. I feel she kept
you well informed of the doings of
the Home during that time.
The sympathy of residents and
staff is extended to the family of
the late Mrs. Lillian Kleinfeldt.
The residents enjoyed a bus
trip on one of the nice days last
week going by way of Crediton,
Exeter and back home. They find
the progress of the crops and
flower gardens of particular
ointerest to them.
Bingo was played on Friday
evening followed by refresh-
ments.
We extend a welcome to the
following people who recently
took up residency in the
Maplewoods Apartments, Mrs.
Violet Dunn formerly of the
Grand Bend area, Mrs. Blanche
Bechard, Mr. & Mrs. Norman
Gascho and Mr. Clarence Far-
well all former Zurich residents.
Glimpses
The Ladies Auxiliary are
planning to sponsor a student
volunteer program this summer.
They are looking particularly for
young high school students who
would be willing and interested in
giving a bit of their time to work
for and with the residents. No
doubt they would find it to be a
very rewarding experience. If
there are any students interested
in this project, they should
contact Mrs. Louis Farwell, RR
3, Zurich, telephone 236-4646 for
further information,
We welcome Mrs. Nancy Sch-
wartzentruber, formerly of Blake
as a new resident.
Saturday was our annual
daffodil tea and bake sale
sponsored by the Ladies
Auxiliary. On behalf of the
members I . would like to say
thank you to all who donated
baking for the sale and all who
attended the tea and made it the
success that it was.
The Sunday evening chapel
service was conducted by Rev.
Mellecke of Dashwood Lutheran
church. The children's choir from
the church sang during the
service and was accompanied by
Miss Helen Nadiger who presided
at the organ.

Ombudsman
Arthur Maloney, Q.C., the
Ombudsman of Ontario, an-
nounced recently that the
program of public hearings being
carried out by his office
throughout the Province will be
discontinued for the period of the
Provincial Election Campaign.
Mr. Maloney explained that the
cessation of the hearings is a
move to emphasize in the public
mind the non-political role of the
