Gwen and Michael on Friday
evening,
R. S. M. Ronald A. MacKinnon
of Germany spent a few days in
Edmonton and London prior to
spending the week -end together
with his brother and sister-in-law
Mr. & Mrs. Wm. MacKinnon,
Byron, with their mother Mrs.
Janet B. MacKinnon.
Mr. & Mrs, Roy Allison,
Toronto spent last week with the
latter's sister and brother-in-law
Mr. & Mrs. Joe Flynn,
Mrs. S. Taylor, Exeter was a
week -end visitor with her son-in-
law and daughter Mr. & Mrs. Don
Mousseau and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Ben Heil, Mrs.
LaRose and Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Heil all of Lowbanks and Mr. and
Mrs. Earl Heil of Essex spent
Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Heil and were present at the
baby's baptism.
Mrs. Audrey Oesch and Tracy
of London visited with the
formers grandparents Mr. and
Mrs. Sam Oesch on Sunday. Also
visiting were their grandson and
wife, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bell and
son Mr. and Mrs. Russell Oesch
and family.
Mrs. Lewis Johns of Exeter,
spent Sunday with her daughter
and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Hans Gerstenkorn and family. In
the evening, Mr, and Mrs.
Emmerson Johns and family and
Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Elford all of
Exeter visited with Mr. and Mrs.
Hans Gerstenkorn.
Dr. and Mrs. Harold Dilling
and Mrs. Ron Wideman from
Scarborough visited over the
weekend with Mr. Wilber Dilling
and with Mrs. Anna Dilling in the
Queenswav Nursing Home.
Miss Margaret and Mr. Wilfred
Mousseau spent two days last
week at the Pro Life Festival held
at Ottawa Civic Centre and also
at the Chateau Laurier Hotel and
a Pro Life March to Parliament
Hill where a demonstration was
held by 5,600 people from all
across Canada.
The Local IOOF and Rebekah
Lodges will march to the Hensall
United Church Sunday May 15 at
11:00 a.m. Members are to meet
at the Lodge Hall at 10:30 a,m,
Mr. & Mrs. Garnet Allan spent
Sunday with their son-in-law and
daughter Mr. & Mrs. Beierling at
Varna and attended the bap-
tismal service of their grandson
at Varna Church.
Mrs. Alice Ferg was a week-
end visitor with her son-in-law
and daughter Mr. & Mrs. Charles
Eckel and family at Zurich.
Parker and Parker Ltd. Farm
Drainage held an evening for
farmers in the Hensall Arena
Friday when Mr. Maxwell
Richer, Dunnville who is with the
Crop and Soil Research and is
experienced in Farm Drainage
addressed themeetingand showed
slides.
An open discussion followed
when farmers were free to ask
questions on Clay and Plastic tile.
The ladies serviced a lunch
follow.,ing the meeting. Over 75
district farmers attended.
Unit Four U.C.W.
Unit 4 of Hensall U.C.W. met
for their May meeting on Thurs-
day, May 5, in the Fellowship
Hall with Mrs, James McAllister
presiding. The meeting opened
with a poem, "The Mountain
Road" read by Mrs. Nan Britton.
The hymn, "From Greenlands
Icy Mountains" was sung. Mrs.
James McAllister had the topic
and used an article from the May
Observer titled, "Three score
years and ten" written by
Clarence Nicholson who said,
"we are thankful to God who
through all the days gives us the
strength to go forward every day
in His love". Mrs. Nellie Riley
read two poems, one "On grow-
ing old" and a humorous. one,
"The mule and the man".
The group reported sixty visits
to sick and shut-ins, Mrs. Rena
Caldwell called on donations to
the beef Bar-B-Que to be held
May 25,
Unit Two U.C.W.
Unit 2 of Hensall U.C.W, met
on Monday evening, May 9 for
their May meeting with fourteen
members and two visitors pre-
sent. Mrs. Stewart Blackwell
chaired the meeting and opened
with a poem on family life and
the hymn, "Happy the home
when God is there", Mrs. Jack
Corbett chaired the devotional
and read a cutting from the Lon-
don. Free Press about the life of
Catherine Selves, a friend of
some members of our congrega-
tion. Being blind, music
transformed her life from
darkness to light
After dedication of the Offer-
tory, Mrs, Ian McAllister showed
pictures of a recent trip to the
British Isles, showing the
beauties of Ireland and Coventry
Cathedral,
Mrs. Carl Payne followed this
with a study on the world food
crisis and how it can be relieved.
During the business, a letter of
thanks was read and invitations
to attend a meeting at Blyth on
May 24, Brucefield U.C.W. on
June 7 at 2 p.m., in Hensall
Presbyterian Church on June 6 at
8 p.m. Final plans for enter-
taining on June 20 were an-
nounced and all plans finalized
for the beef bar -b -q on May 25.
Sew and Sews
The sixth meeting of the Sew -
and -Sews was held at the home
of Diane Gerstenkorn on May 3,
1977. The meeting opened with
the 4H Pledge and the roll call
was, "Name and show your trim
on your garments". The leaders
demonstrated how to slip stitch
different hems on knit and woven
fabrics; they also demonstrated
how to put in a sleeve. The next
meeting will be on Wednesday,
May 18.
Bedtime Beauties
The sixth meeting of the Bed-
time Beauties was held at Mrs.
Fuss' home on May 3, 1977. The
meeting was opened with the 4H
Pledge. Roll call was to show the
type of trim or finish to be used
on your garment and the method
of using it. Business covered the
meeting next week and the
minutes. Discussion was on sew-
ing in sleeves and the Bristol
Board for the exhibit and hems
and sewing on buttons, Home
assignment is to finish garment
and book. The next meeting will
be on Tuesday, May 17.
Family Sunday
. On Mother's Day, Christian
Family Sunday was observed at
Hensall United Church Services.
