Council met in regular session
Monday evening May 2 and
learned that as of April 27 there is
still approximately $3,000.00 to be
raised to complete the new
library. Individual donations
' have amounted to $10,778 and
$5,400.00 has been received from
Foundations.
Received as invitation to attend
the Huron County Municipal
Officers Association meeting in
the Legion Hall in Lucknow on
Thursday May 12. Some of the
topics to be discussed will include
taxing and servicing of mobile
homes and the Blair Commission
Report. A letter was received
from Lois Lance with suggestions
regarding the replanting of
maple trees on the east side of
Clan Gregor Square; some flower
beds where they can be seen from
the highway and she also
suggested planting some Queen
Elizabeth roses to commemorate
her Silver Jubilee. All this with
the "Keep Bayfield Beautiful"
theme that so many have come to
associate with the public flower
beds in the Village, achieved only
by the long, tedious hours of its
organizers Don and Lois Lance
Council learns library fund still $3Q00 short
and their hard working
assistants.
Receive a letter from the
Ministry of Culture and
Recreation stating that the
Athletic Field Grant applied for
could be delayed until April 1978.
Learned that the clerk will be out
of the office on Thursday May 19
attending a Spring Meeting of the
Association of Municipal Clerks
of Ontario in Alliston.
Acknowledged a letter from Mr.
& Mrs Bill Aberhart in respect to
drainage erosion to the west of
their property on Mara St.
Received approval for subsidy
from the M.T.C. to lay gravel and
asphalt, and learned that the
Consultants have recommended
that the Ontario Housing
Renewal Program is continuing
until March 31, 1978, they felt,
following evaluation, that there
was a real need to continue the
program. The Ministry of
Community and Social Services
announced that Premier William
Davis has declared the week of
June 19 to 25 as Ontario Senior
Citizens Week.
In other business, council
decided to dump some sand on
the beach at the South Pier to County Rate (commercial) (38.5)
make it more readily accessible 39; Village of Bayfield
to Seniors, the handicapped and (residential) (36.5) 45.5; Village
people with small babies who are
not able to climb up and down the
long flights of steps; set Tuesday
May 10 at 8:30 p.m: as the date
for a meeting with the neigh-
bouring municipalities to discuss
the aspects of an Area Fire
Board; decided to clear the rights
of way in the Osmond Estate;
learned that the picnic tables and
trash containers are being
readied to set out in Clan Gregor
Square; increased the building
permits to $5.00 for the first
thousand dollars and 50 cents for
each addi tional thousand dollars;
passed a by-law estimating all
sums required to operate the
Village for 1977 and learned that
the mill rates in the municipality
have increased as follows. (the
