Everyone in the village will be called upon and if they are away one day they will be called upon the next. The Kinsmen have volunteered to carry out the canvassing within the village to allow the official fund raising committee chaired by Eric Luther to con- centrate on the surrounding townships. Mr. Luther said Friday he expects both canvasses to begin in the first or second week of May and says they will be done quickly. In fact, Mr. Luther stated the canvassing should be completed within a month of its start. "We are looking for everyone's generous support to make this fund-raising campaign suc- cessful," commented Mr. Luther. Canvassers will have some information concerning the community centre with them and should be able to answer most questions of a not too technical nature. The Kinsmen may be looking for volunteer canvassers to man the close to 15 routes throughout the village according to a Club spokesman.. The total amount which must be raised during the fund- raising drive is $150,000, only a small portion of the $600,000 the new centre is expected to cost. The proposed centre will be a one storey structure, pre- engineered and pre -fabricated as this saves the cost of an ar- chitects fee. A community hall plus ice surface will be included in the structure. TESTING THE SOIL — One of the first steps being taken in the constr -uction of a community centre for Hensall is this drilling to test the soil on the proposed site The results of the testing will determine how deep the foundations have to go. We opened the meeting with the 4-H Pledge. We had an "open" discussion for the roll call which was "Name the topic ofyourclub presentations for Achievement Day. Name five important points when planning." We came up with several points, but the five most important for a skit in our opinion were: 1) Al! members participating; 2) Good introduction with a narrator; 3) Clear, readable posters; 4) Good communication with the crowd, in conveying the information as in our actions and clarity of our voices; 5) Not too long—short and to the point. We discussed facings and understitching. We all made a sample of a casing using a woven material, by cutting a bias strip and then applying it. We also started a direct application of lace. This application is usually done towards the. end of con- struction. eg. around the bottom of a hem. We discussed a couple of plans for our Achievement Day, but nothing was settled. The meeting was adjourned at 9:45 p.m. Meeting 6 was held at Black - well's at 7:00 p.m. on April 20. The roll call was to show and tell what kind of trim you are using on your garment. • Some people caught up on samples and then we discussed sewing on bottons with and without a shank. We are to have our garments done by next meeting. MR. AND MRS.
