ding Anniversary Sunday, April 17, at their home. An open house for
relatives and family was held on Sunday afternoon. As Mrs. Merner
had just returned from the hospital, a surprise dinner party for
relatives and family had to be cancelled. Relatives from St. Catharines,
Toronto, Detroit, Kitchener, London, Tillsonburg, Dashwood, Hensall,
Clinton and Zurich attended. Mr. Merner and his wife, the formes
Isabell Kyle, were married in Detroit, Michigan, and moved to the farm
in Hay Township in 1930, where they farmed until their retirement in
1969. Since that time they have lived at their present home in Zurich.
They have two daughters, Marjorie (Mrs. Hubert Schilbe), Zurich; Don-
na, Toronto; and three sons, William, London; Robert, Zurich; and
Larry, RR 3, Zurich. A son, Arnold Jr., predeceased in 1970. They also
have 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild. They received many
cards of congratulations, including a plaque from Premier Davis, Prime
Minister Trudeau, R.E. McKinley, MP and Jack Riddell, MPP.
Emmanuel U.C.W.
host April meeting
Dashwood and Crediton U.C.W.
were guests of the . Emmanuel
U.C.W., Zurich, for their April
meeting which was held on
Thursday evening.
Mrs. Newell Geiger opened the
meeting with an Easter
meditation and a poem "Spring is
here". The hymn "Beneath the
Cross of Jesus" was sung. Mrs.
Don Rawlings read the scripture
John 20 and Mrs. Menne Steckle
led in prayer.
Mrs. Mary Hey read a poem.
Mrs. Dorothy Bullock and Miss
Lillie Greb-from Exeter, playing
guitar and accordion, sang two
duets "He Lives" and "He Has
Never Failed Me Yet".
Mrs. Eric Luther from Hensall
was guest speaker and spoke on
several._ occasions that Christ
appeared to his disciples after
His resurrection. The disciples
had expected Him to be crowned
king after his triumphal entry
into Jerusalem but instead of
sitting on a throne he was hung on
a cross and instead of a king's
crown he wore a crown of thorns.
There are many infallable proofs
of the wonderful resurrection. A
dead Christ could not revive a
dead world.
Mrs. Bullock and Miss Greb
sang another number, "The
Longer I Serve Him the Sweeter
He Grows".
After lunch was served, a brief
executive meeting was held.

WATER REST HOME
Golden
Glimpses . . . r
The beautiful weather was
certainly, in favor of all those
families and friends who
travelled to the Blue Water Rest
Home to enjoy the annual Easter
dinner with the residents. There
were two hundred and twenty-one
guests here to enjoy the delicious
meal of scalloped potatoes, ham
and turkey along with salads and
all the trimmings, plus cherry
and apple pies. We wish to thank
Mrs. Horn, head cook who
planned the gond rneal along
with the kitchen staff who worked
so hard, Also "Thank You1- to
each one of the members of the
Ladies Auxiliary because without
their assistance the undertaking
would be impossible.
We were pleased to again have
Miss Dorcas Gingerich, Mrs.
Jack Turkhiem, Miss Idella
Gable and Mrs. Margaret Coates
who presided at the organ during
the afternoon and early evening
providing pleasant background
music. A sincere "Thank You" to
each one of you for your con-
tribution in making the day a
successful one.
A draw was made on a cake
with proceeds going to Bunny
Bundle, We wish to thank Mrs.
Maxine Miller on the lovely job
she did of decorating the cake.
I'm sure Mrs. Verlie Lavery the
lucky recipient would say it
tasted just as good as it looked,
With all that activity most of
the residents felt somewhat tired
by evening, but then, can you
think of a more pleasant reason
to be tired?
The chapel service was with-
drawn on Sunday evening because
of the residents' family dinner.
Monday evening films were
shown and Friday evening, Bingo
was played followed with
refreshments.
We wish to extend a warm
welcome to Mrs. Gertrude Gittus
from Hensall to our Home.
