He took office following the Association's Annual Convention held in Toronto at the Sheraton Centre in late March. Mr. Consitt was appointed to the Ontario Mutual Insurance Association Executive in 1972 as the representative of Group 4 of the: Farm Mutuals, which is made up of 12 such companies in the London area. There are approximately 55 Farm Mutuals across Ontario who are members of the Ontario Mutual Insurance Association, with a Central Office of the Assoication located in Cam- bridge, Ontario. Mr. Consitt is the third person from his Company to have the honour of being President, having been preceded by Herbert Eilber in 1943 and Reginald Black in 1964. The Farm Mutuals presently are restricted to insuring only farm risks, urban dwellings, cottages and churches, and the Ontario Association is trying to get licences to sell insurance to farm -related commercial business as well. Presently the Ontario Insurance Act prohibits the Mutuals from insuring such commercial farm -related in- surance coverages as small farm machinery retail and repair shops;" retail seed grain operations; retail spray materials and fertilizers; and small abattoirs. Past -President of the Association, G,L. Welsh told the Convention that current legislative restrictions should be removed so the Mutuals would be able to write risks incidental to farming operations. Mr. Consitt says that it is now becoming possible for Farm Mutuals to get into automobile coverage, something they were John Consitt unable to do in the past. He ex- pects several companies will be branching out into this field within the next two or three years, but feels there is still a lot of ground -work to be done prior to doing so. Mel McIntyre, Cambridge, Executive Secretary of the Ontario Mutual Insurance Association told the convention that the farm Mutuals have the encouragement of the Ontario Department of Insurance, which wants to see the Ontario -based companies expand to help offset the dominant position of foreign- owned property casualty in- surance companies in the Ontario market. Officers of the Ontario Mutual Insurance Association Executive for the year 1977-78 are as follows: Past -President, Gordon L. Welsh, Cambridge; President, John R. Consitt, Zurich; lst Vice President, Vernon L.
