Bed Bugs meet
third and .fourth times
By Karen McAllister
The third meeting of the "Bed
Bugs" was held on March 30 at
the home of Ida Ann Blackwell.
Our discussion concered gathers,
seams and different types of
seam finishes.
We learned that flat felled
seams should be used on tailored
garments and that french seams
should be fused on soft, sheer
fabrics.
Ida Ann demonstrated how to
make a french seam and a flat
felled seam and each member
made samples of these. For home
assignment we were to sew up the
seams of our garments and use
the appropriate seam finish.
By Marianne Mathonia
Our fourth meeting took place
at 7:00 p.m. on April 5 at Black -
well's. For our roll call answer
we each told what sort of seams
and seam finishes we were using
on our garments.
We discussed bindings using
knits, which are a quick and easy
method for finishing necklines.
Ida Ann showed us how to apply
fringe (with some problems) and
Mary demonstrated how to apply
lace.
Our next meeting will take
place at the home of Martha Neeb
on Wednesday, April 13 at 7:00
p.m.
Lounging ladies
By G. Schwartzentruber
The Lounging Ladies attended
the sixth meeting on Wednesday,
April 6. Roll call was answered
by everyone showing the type of
trim they plan on using on their
garments.
We had three samples of hems
that had to be completed tonight.
They were: lace on the bottom of
your nightgown; slipstitch on
cotton; hem done by machine.
.Mrs. Schwartzentruber and
Mrs. Smith checked most of the
garments -to see how the girls are
coming with them. We only have
a couple of weeks in which to
finish our outfits and books.
The meeting was over by 9:15.
If you walk
to work,
it won't be work
to walk.
