Canadian Appreciation Sunday
Canadians captured and held
for some hours, the Gulf Beach
Presbyterian Church at Panama
City Beach, Florida, on Sunday,
March 20, with no opposition
from its U.S. owners.
It was Canadian Appreciation
Sunday for the welcome given
them by the members of that
Church and for the excellent
services of its minister, the
Reverent Ralph M. Evans. The
churches of Panama City Beach
and nearby areas have found
finances tight since Hurricane
Eloise struck in September 1975
as so many members suffered
considerable damage to their
homes and businesses and have
had to borrow money for ex-
tensive repairs.
The service was conducted by
Dr. Allen R. Huband retired
United Church minister of
Toronto, who gave an inspiring
sermon on the last weeks of
Christ's life here on earth, up to
and including the crucifixion. The
scripture was read by Reverend
Maynard Booth. A 28 member all
Canadian choir led by Mr, Bert
Rennie sang while the
congregation was gathering and
later followed the theme of the
service with the selections
"Amazing Grace" and "Were
You There?" with solos by Mr.
Fred Pulkinghorn of Waterloo,
Mrs. J. Smith of Toronto and Mr.
Rennie of Brantford. Mrs.

opened to make the team score
three goals. The last one came as

The goalies were Kevin Oke, Greg O'Brien and
Dwayne Martin.
Conrad Ziegel was pianist and
Mrs. Pulkinghorn the organist, as
she had been the last few Sundays
due to the illness of the regular
organist. Ushers and greeters
also were from "across the
border"; a local couple, Mr. &
Mrs. LeRoy Poth helping serve in
that capacity. One verse each of
"My Country Tis of Thee" (US)
and "Our Loved Dominion Bless"
(Canadian) brought to a close a
dynamic service to an overflow
congregation; after which many
remained for coffee, cookies
and chatting.
