The first game in the Con-
solation Atom tournament
between Zurich and Blyth ended
a 4-4 tie after 10 minutes of
overtime.
The game was a closely fought
one with Blyth coming on strong
in the first priod and then
seeming to lose some of their
control as the Zurich Atoms
fought back.
Blyth led the game by a score
of 2-0 at the end of the first but it
didn't take Zurich long to get
back into the game once the
second period started, Derek
McKinnon with assists from
Darcy Martin and Rick Keupfer
put Zurich back in the game with
a goal at the two minute mark of
the second period.
Blyth then scored to put them
two goals ahead once more but
before the period ended Jeff
Laporte narrowed that margin to
one goal by scoring for the Zurich
team assisted by Doug Schade
and Rick Keupfer.
Zurich took the lead for the first
time in the game in the third after
Dean Armstrong and. Jeff
Laporte scored two consecutive
goals. Dean scored unassisted
while Rick Keupfer and Dean
both assisted on Jeff's goal,
Halfway through the third
period Blyth tied the score at 4-4
and that was to be the last goal of
the game. Even though the teams
went into 10 minutes of overtime
they were unable to break the
deadlock.
The series is best two out of
three.
