Bed Bugs display
patterns and material
By Ida -Ann Blackwell
The second 4-H meeting of the
Zurich II Bed Bugs was held on
Wednesday, March 9, at the home
of Mary and Ida -Ann Blackwell
at 7:00 p.m.
The meeting was opened with
the 4-H pledge which was led by
our president, Martha Neeb. The
nine members present each
displayed their pattern and
material for the roll call. We
decided that our next meeting
will be hell in three weeks time,
March 30, 7:00 p.m., due to
exams and holidays.
Alterations were discussed and
everyone measured their pat-
terns, to be doubly sure that their
garmentswill fit• when finished.
Meanwhile, a couple of girls
pinned their patterns to their
material.
We filled out a small quiz
dealing with pattern symbols also
a few true and false questions and
a couple definitions.
For our next meeting everyone
is to have their pattern cut out,
marked (either by tailor's tacks,
tracing paper and wheel or
tailor's chalk) . The members
should also stay -stitch their
material. Members are also
reminded to bring scrap pieces of
material for samples to the next
meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at
9:15 p.m.
Lounging Ladies hold
third 4•,H meeting
By G. Schwartzentruber
On Wednesday, March 16, the
Lounging Ladies gathered at
Schwartzentruber's for their
third meeting.
Sylvia Neeb opened the
meeting with the 4-H pledge, and
then took attendance. Roll call
question was: one point to
remember when cutting or
marking your fabric. Some an-
swers were: make sure all
markings are done; use ruler
when doing darts; use suitable
colour of tracing paper in case
markings don't wash out; don't
have material hanging over end
of table when cutting it.
Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Sch-
wartzentruber demonstrated
gathers. Gathers are found
mostly in the sleeve. They also
showed how to sew a dart. Then
they demonstrated inserting lace
into a curved piece of fabric.
Everyone is ready to start
sewing on their nightgowns.
They're very anxious to sew and
to see what the finished product
will look like. The meeting ended
at 9:30 p.m.

will be aware that the success of
the event exceeded all ex-
pectations, and probably you are
wondering who the lucky winners
of the draw were. Mrs. Mary Orr
of Dashwood won the afghan and
Mrs. Pat Roemmele of Appin won
the tatted oily. I know the citizens
of Maplewoods are sincerely
grateful for the support they
received in this their first large
undertaking to raise funds for
future projects. Even though I
previously mentioned the ladies
of Maplewoods, I would also like
to add that the men also pitched
in and helped to make the event
the success that it was.
On Friday evening bingo was
played followed by refresh-
ments.
The Sunday evening chapel
service was conducted by Mr. &
Mrs. Eric Luther, A reading was
given by Mrs. Russell Erratt,
Mrs. Luther sang several
numbers and was accompanied
by Mr. Luther who presided at
the organ.
