Atoms defeat Grand Bend
in closely fought game
The Zurich Atoms defeated
Grand Bend in a game March 13
in the Zurich arena by a score of
5 to 3.
The game was closely fought,
particularly in the first period as
Grand Bend opened the scoring
early. Zurich fought back as Mike
Bedard scored to tie the game
with Dean Armstrong getting the
assist. The first period ended in a
tie.
Grand Bend again opened the
scoring in the second period to
take the lead, but Zurich's Rick
Kuepfer managed a single
handed goal to end the second
period with the teams fighting
hard but still tied.
In the third, Zurich came into
its own and went on a three goal
scoring spree. Dean Armstrong,
Derek McKinnon and Jeff
Laporte tucked goals in behind
the Grand Bend goalie to give
Zurich a 5 to 2 lead. Grand Bend
managed one more goal before
the game ended but they were
never able to get back on the
track following Zurich's scoring.
Zurich assists went to Dean
Armstrong, Darcy Martin and

Alvinston 6, Zurich 3
The first period was a tight one,
with only Johnston scoring for
Alvinston.
However, Zurich started
looking tired in the second frame
after a hard game on Monday
night. Alvinston outscored Zurich
3-1, with Jim Willert slapping the
H
Mt.
puck by the pipes, assisted by
Kerry Bedard.
The third period was even, as
at first Zurich, came up with two
goals before Alvinston replied
with two more. Robert Willert
scored from Mark Regier and the
other goal was banged in by Mark
Regier on a lone effort.
s e sily defeat
rydges in finals
The Hawks had an easy time
eliminating Mt. Brydges in the
sixth game of their playoff as
they posted a 12-3 verdict on the
losers' ice, Saturday.
Exeter scored four goals in
each period on the way to their
win and it became evident early
in the contest that Mt. Brydges
had given up any hopes of
stopping the Hawks.
Their main intention appeared
to be in roughing up the Hawks,
but the locals kept their cool to
stay away from any possible
suspensions with the loop final
coming up.
Ken Pinder paced the Hawks to
their lop -sided win with four
goals and one assist.
Single tallies were registered
by Noel Skinner, Fred Mom-
mersteeg, Rick Ingram, Don
McKeller, Phil Knight, Jim
Ferguson, Gerald Weido and
Matt Muller.
Steve Jennison was the top
play -maker with three assists to
his credit.
