Stanle
Stanley township has informed
Zurich council they are willing to
donate $1,000 this year to the
Zurich Parks, Recreation and
Community Centre board, The
grant would be payable June 30,
1977 and represents a 100 percent
increase over Stanley's grant last
year.
So far no work has been
received from any other
municipality asked by Zurich for
aid.
Mr. W.F. Jenkins, Regional
Assessment Commissioner for
Huron and Perth Counties at-
tended Zurich council's regular
meeting last Thursday to discuss
with council the internal
reorganization of the Huron
Perth Regional Assessment of-
fice.
At last month's meeting council
had expressed some concern over
the appointment of what council
considered to be a local man to do
the village assessment.
Mr. Jenkins assured council
there was no need for concern as
the assessor appointed, is one of
the offices senior assessors and is
very well qualified for the job.
Council was informed by Mr.
Jenkins the reason for the
reorganization was not to
eliminate local men from doing
assessing in an area but rather

We are very pleased that Rev.
Taylor is home from Clinton
hospital. The church service was
conducted by men of the
congregation, with Gordon
Johnston leading the service. Bill
Taylor read the children's story
and the scripture, and Ivan
McClymont delivered the ser-
mon. We were fortunate in
having sermons which Rev.
Taylor had prepared for use
during his winter vacation. They
were not used at that time, as bad
weather caused the cancellation
of services on those Sundays. We
are also fortunate in having
people who can take over so
capably. Mrs. Margaret Taylor is
taking next Sunday's service.
Mr. & Mrs. Bill McAsh
returned on Saturday from an
enjoyable two-week vacation at
Waikiki Beach in Hawaii. They
had a panoramic view of the
islands by plane, and did some
sightseeing by car. They went to
Hay, Stanley
receive grants
for planning study
Hay and Stanley townships are
among five recipients of com-
munity planning study grants
allocated by the provincial
Ministry of Housing.
The grants total $18,878 with
both Hay and Stanley townships
receiving $5,810.
The grants are designed to
assist municipalities and plan-
ning boards in preparing official
plans and zoning by-laws or in
bringing these up to an ac-
ceptable level.
The funds can also be used to
prepare zoning by-laws to
replace minister's zoning orders,
to finance planning programs for
unorganized municipalities or for
other relevant planning studies.

upgrade the quality of
assessment.
Council was assured by Mr.
Jenkins they have no reason to
worry over the assessor they
have been assigned as his
knowledge of the area should
enable him to be more not less
efficient.
Mr. Jenkins added all his
assessors must answer daily to a
supervisor for both the quality
and quantity of work done. The
assessment office also monitors
all the assessors evaluations in a
geographic area on a regular
basis.
Council passed a resolution to
give Mothgack Development
Corporation their support in the
corporations bid to have a portion
of village property they wish to
develop rezoned from industrial
to residential. The Corporation
must now take this request to the
county level. Reeve Haberer and
Councillor McKinnon expressed
conflicts of interest in this
development plan and retired
from council chambers before
any discussion between council
and the corporation took place.
Councillor McKinnon informed
council the village community
centre fund-raising commmittee
has turned over $37,000 so far and
they have not completed their
fund-raising activities.
A resolution from the City of
Nanticoke requesting councils
support for a request that the
province be asked to set up funds
through the Provincial lottery for
snow removal subsidies was not
endorsed by council.
The Ministry of Culture and
Recreation informed council
final approval has been granted
as of February 14, 1977 for $64,000
of Wintario Assistance based on
an expenditure of $140,000. So far
no Wintario funds have been
received by Council.
A request for financial
assistance from the Huron
Plowman's Association was
granted in the amount of $50.
Council was informed they
have been invited to attend the
September session of County
Council.
A resolution was passed by
council authorizing the clerk to
prepare a by-law for the for-
mation of a Committee of
Adjustment for the village.
A minimum of three people
must be found to form such a
committee and they cannot be
council members, members of
any municipal boards or em-
ployees of the municipality. This
will be discussed further at the
next meeting of council.
Council recommended to the
range Lodge euchre
party a great success
the Kodak show and a Don Ho
show, etc. With them for the
holiday were Mr. & Mrs. Arnold
Rathwell and Mr. & Mrs. Bruce
McGillivray of Port Elgin.
There was a capacity crowd at
the Stanley Township Recreation
Dance at Hully Gully on Saturday
night. During an intermission,
Doug McAsh and Barry Taylor,
on behalf of the Varna Orange
Lodge, presented the Recreation
Committee with sweaters for
their ball teams. The ball caps,
which they are also donating,
have not arrived yet.
The door prizes were won by
Mr. & Mrs. Cliff Henderson and
Mr. & Mrs. Paul Morrison. Spot

Hayter and Doug McBeath and
Mr. & Mrs. Norman Chessell.
Co ncil increases c
of
wilding permits
The cost of obtaining a building
permit in the village of Zurich
has increased.
At Thursday's regular council
meeting, the cost of a building
permit in the village was raised
to $10 for the first $1,000, $8 for the
second $1,000 and $2 for every
additional $1,000.
The old charge was $10 for the
first $1,000 and $1 for each ad-
ditional thousand or part thereof.
At the old rate, according to
councillor Ray McKinnon, if the
building inspector had to make
st
two calls on a $2,000 building
permit then the village was $5 in
the whole. An increase in the fee
paid the building inspector is the
reason for this.
Reeve Fred Haberer said he
felt the inspection costs must
come out of the building permit
and if the rates must be raised
to allow this then he was in favor
of raising the rates. The rest of
council agreed and the rate in-
crease was approved.
No building permit is needed
for work under $300.

Hydro committee a change be
made in the charging for billing
to the village. Rather than having
the village pay a set sum per bill
to have sewage included on the
hydro and water bills, council is
recommending they pay 20
percent of the total billing cost.
This will be discussed at the next
Hydro committee meeting.
