Women's Missionary
society meets in Hensall

meeting held Monday. The

meeting was called by reading a
paragraph entitled "Smile".
Mrs. Agnes Madge was in
charge of the Devotional. Her
subject was "My Cup Runneth
Over When the Spirit is Free",
which was much enjoyed by all.
Mrs. Soldan took the topic
"Ecology and the Missionary".
She schooled the group as to the
meaning of Ecology by talking
about changes which man has
made; A. In birds who live close
to man; B. Insects who inad-
vertently brought into our
localities; C. The breeding of a
super bice in South America
called the"Killer Bee"which could
be here in ten years.
In a talk on the "Great
Drought" in the Sahel area of
Africa and Ethiopia 1973; poor
economic practises. were cited
as causing the great shortage of
water and food. It was the old
missionaries in these areas who
were best adapted to help handle
the situation. Praise was given to
the United Nations in Unicef.
There were 10 ladies present
and one visitor Mrs. George Walz
of Stratford a life member who
paid a friendly visit to the group.
This part of the meeting con-
cluded by repeating the 23rd
Psalm in unison. Business
matters were attended and
closed by repeating the Lord's
Prayer.

Flyers into quarterfinals
The Zurich Flyers lost the first
game of 'their quarter final
playoffs as the were defeated by
Thedford 9 to 5.
Zurich managed to score first
in the game as Ken Smale con-
nected a pass from Rick Schilbe.
However it wasn't long before
Thedford came back with two
fast goals to end the period in the
lead.
Thedford managed to widen
their lead to three goals early in
the second with the Flyers
scoring late in the period as Ron
Desjardine scored assisted by
Wayne Clark and Pat Bedard.
In a high scoring third period
Zurich came out on the losing end
as Thedford salted away five
goals to Zurich's three to win the
game 9 to 5. Zurich goals were
scored by Ron Desjardine, Pat
Bedard and Steve Haberer with
assists going to Pat Bedar, Glen
Overholt, Ron Desjardine, and
Ken Smale.
Stars of the game were Ron
Desjardine for Zurich and Dave
Burch for Thedford.
Bayfield skate -a -thou popular.
The Lioness Skate-a-thon to
raise funds to repair the arena
was held Saturday, March 5, and
was described as a tremendous
success. There were 108 skaters
taking part from ages five to over
45. The stamina of the skaters
was admirable as 40 of them
skated the 12 hours.
The youngest skater to com-
plete the 12 hours was 'Kevin
Dunn aged six, while the oldest
was John Siertsema, aged ???
Marg and Joe Mayman did three
hours each, One of the youngest
skaters was Jody Merner at age
five who skated for nine hours.
"We got very tried just wat-
ching."
Hot drinks, cold drinks and do-
nuts helped to keep the skaters
going. The Lioness Club say
thanks to everyone especially the
skaters, the mothers, the rink
rats and all who made the day so
successful, The skaters are asked
to get their pledges collected
right away so that the final figure
can be calculated. You can turn
them into Grahams General
Store, Bayfield Building Centre
or Merner's Garage. Also see you
all at the St. Patrick's Dance,
Saturday, March 12 in the
Community Centre.
