the S.S. Doric for the cruise of
seven islands in the Caribbean.
They reported a wonderful and
enjoyable holiday.
Scouter John Siertsema
assistant cub leader Carol Fisher
and Joe Mayman, chairman of
the group committee, attended a
district scouters meeting in
Lucan on Thursday, March 1.
Mrs. Frank Anderson, Science
Hill, spent a couple of days last
week with her mother, Mrs.
Maude Sturgeon.
Mr. & Mrs. Bud Sturgeon spent
part of the weekend in Sarnia as
the guests of Mr. & Mrs. James
E. House, The House's returned
to Bayfield with Bud and Barb
and were their guests for the
remainder of the weekend.
Suzanne Stevens returned
home after three weeks in
England where she attended the
International Gift Show. She was
on a buying trip to Birmingham
and Blackpool where she pur-
chased some "out of the or-
dinary" items for her Ancient
Mariner Gift Shop on Main
Street.
Lydia Erickson entertained
three little girls to dinner on
Saturday at the Candlelight
Restaurant in Goderich. Krista
Knights, Cindy Scott and Sheryl
Layton, along with sister Luanne
and Daddy and Mom helped
Lydia celebrate her sixth bir-
thday. The party returned to
Lydia's home where they enjoyed
the traditional birthday cake and
ice cream.
Excavation has begun on the
New Library on Main Street next
to the Post Office. Wallis Bros.
Construction were awarded the
contract at the price of $38,387

Mr. & Mrs. Albert Craig, Mrs.
Judy Layton, Joanne and Sheryl
attended the christening of the
former's granddaughter four
month old Jennifer Ann Craig,
Sunday morning in Wesley Willis
United Church in Clinton.
Following theservice the family
were entertained by Jennifer's
parents, Mr. & Mrs. Tom Craig at
their home.
Mrs. Violet Sturgeon and Mrs.
Edna Mote accompanied the
former's granddaughter, Mr. &
Mrs. Gary Potter and Merry on a
holiday south, where they spent
the past 2 112 weeks, returning
home on Saturday evening. While
away they spent sometime in
Knoxville, Tennessee, St.
Augustine, Ft. Lauderdale, St.
Petersburg, Disney World,
Orlando, all in Florida and in
Nashville, Tennessee on their
return,
Mr. &Mrs. Donald R. McLeod
attended the annual Fishermen's
meeting at the Ministry of
Natural Resources District
Office in Wingham on Friday.
Many of the other commercial
fishermen in the area attended
including Ed Siddall and Bob
McGraw,
Mr. & Mrs. E. Walter Erickson,
Andrew, Luanne and Lydia,
visited friends Sunday afternoon
in Port Huron, Michigan.
Mr. & Mrs. Ray Bell have
returned home after a two week
Caribbean Cruise. They flew
from Toronto to Ft. Lauderdale
with tentative completion date of
May 31, 1977.
Good to see Walter Westlake
out of hospital and out to the Post
Office following surgery in
London.
Farmers tell us farming is
nothing but a gamble but they
must have faith in someone as a
self-propelled combine was seen
parked on Main Street in •the
village on Monday afternoon.
Jean Dunn, March of Dimes co-
ordinator for the village,
reported that $176.00 had been
collected. She said thanks to the
donors and the marchers.
Mr. & Mrs. Steve Scotchmer,
Molly and Jody of St. Catharines
visited for the weekend with his
father, Mr. A.F. Scotchmer.
Our best wishes to Mrs. Daisy
Arkell, a patient in Goderich
Hospital, to Russ Kerr in Clinton
Hospital and to Harry Darn-
brough also in Clinton Hospital.
A belated welcome to Mr. &
Mrs. (Jack and Betty) Wheeler,
formerly of London, who have
taken up residence in the village.
The Wheeler's are the parents of
Marsha Triebner.
Welcome home to some of our
villagers who have returnedafter
vacationing. To Evelyn and Reg
Francis back from Florida;
Harry and Fern Baker home
from Arizona and Ed and Marg
Gale who are back from Texas
and Florida and to Rev. Bill and
Jeanne Bennett home from
Florida.
Novice Hockey
The Bayfield Novice club came
to victory over Goderich Friday
night after two goals were scored
by Brent Johnston, two by Robbie
Boyce and another goal by Steve
Taylor, winding up the game 5-1;
with a good game played well by
all the players.

St. Andrews
Renovations are continuing in
the kitchen of St. Andrews United
Church and the members of the
U.C.W. are hopeful they will be
completed for their winners
dinner on Thursday, March 17.
The winners, the result of the
penny collections, are to prepare
and serve the meal while the
losers entertain.

Saturday, March 12, starting at
9:00 a,m. the Novice team are
holding a tournament in the
Bayfield Arena. This is a one day
event and these young fellows are
looking for your support. Please
don't disappoint them.
Curling
Eight rinks competed for two
top spots on Sunday in Bayfield
Arena in the annual curling
bonspiel. Winners in the "A"
Group was Bob Orr's teamwho
played off against Joe Koene's
team. Skip Bob Orr, vice Bill
Talbot and Madelon Mclllwain
took top honours.
In the "B" Group playoff
Randy McLinchey lost to Morris
Sauve's rink. Skip Morris Sauve,
vice Barb Telford and Scotty
McVean and Kelvin Merner won
with a comfortable lead. All rinks
played very well and had a great
day together. Following the
bonspiel a meeting was held of all
curlers to form their 1977 com-
mittee. Elected to office were
President, Jerry Uniac;
Secretary -Treasurer, Alice
Brandon; Advisor, Randy
1YlcLinchey; and work committee
chairman, Joe Koene, Grant
Turner was elected to represent
the curling association on the
arena repairs committee to be
advisor to take back the in-
formation to the club.
Brownies & Cubs
Bayfield Brownies and Cubs
met in the arena Thursday night
and had a lot of fun at a skating
party. Afteran hour of skating the
L.A. served hot dogs and hot
chocolate much enjoyed by the
young people. The weekbeforethe
Scouts along with their leaders
John Siertsema and David
Renner enjoyed a skating party.
The boys prepared and served
their own lunch afterwards,
